With a high demand for pilots at Emirates over the next couple of years how low could they possibly go in dropping their minimums???? Any ideas of a way to talk to management or recruitment staff about minimums or is this not an option at Emirates?

Hi Arena,

Good question... But i think there are enough jockeys around to meet their requirments. Anyone correct me if i am wrong.

Surely, should the market be such, that no one meets the requirments, they will most prob lower the reqs. At the moment i dont see that happening though.

There are plenty of sub-continent Indian pilots with fake jet hours and fake ATPL qualifications to fill the void.
Thank you Capt. poo , you have the right attitude we look for here at pilot recruitment EKGH...your special insight into the forgeries of the fraud Indian aviators will be very useful in exterminating these con-artistes.

We really look forward to your joining the team as we have been suffering from severe neck spasms due to the head shaking and we don't understand a single word from these dimwit Indians . On commencement of your Indian demonization duties , you will be required to water-board the existing 40 odd Indian pilots to extract their levels of flying piracy.

Keep Discovering pooh.

ek second chance

Hi everybody ,

6 months ago I failed my interview process at the second stage , so I pass the tests and the sim check and I heard some rumours about the chance to be called again to undergo once more to the evaluation process in EK in this particular case like mine, despite the fact you have to wait for 24 months .
any feedback? do you if it is true or not .
any info is more than welcome

Thanks and have a safe trip.

ciao

Anyone else get the email invitation to the selection day at Heathrow in May? I am short on the hours, so was surprised but pleased to receive it!

My opinion, for what it is worth, EK wants to see you..not what a "prep company" tells you..spend some effort preparing yourself..the failure rate at interview is high, but YOU have to work out how to pass and how you present yourself to Emirates, not some "Prep Company"...trust me EK will see straight through it....but then again I could be wrong.

I'd go along with what SOPS says. Emirates recruitment know all about the prep companies and will be able to tell if you have handed over your hard earned dollars (or pounds or whatever) to one. That won't stop you getting the job but it is not what they are looking for- they want to see the real you.

Preperation wise, they want to see some evidence that you have researched the job and the country because they come as a package. You can't separate working for Emirates from living in Dubai so make sure you know as much as possible about both the company and the city. Don't, for example, turn up for interview without knowing the seven Emirates that make up the UAE. Know a b it about Islam. The five pillars would be a good start, and know when Ramadam is and what it means. All this stuff will be useful anyway if you do end up in Dubai. It goes without saying that you need to have a good knowledge of the aircraft you are flying now and ATPL theory.

What they are looking for at interview is somebody who can not only fly an aeroplane but who will fit in at Emirates and in Dubai and won't be complaining on PPrune after 6 months that it isn't what they expected.

If you have the time it is worth coming to Dubai for a holiday before the interview. If nothing else you will know what you are getting into.

Hahaha, you really cracked me up here! Oh yes and don't forget to mention that it is Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan who owns Burj Khalifa, it will all do you very good in the interview....

Hi,

I got through the selection process about 10 days ago and I can confirm that they dont want you to know much about Dubai, Islam or even Emirates itself!

I did my sim in the A310 which is the way they want it to go as they are so short of 777 drivers and they need the sims for type ratings rather than assesment.

Have plenty of compentency based answers prepared preferably within a flying scenerio. Be yourself at the interview! I know this sounds obvious but for your own good just do it. I even told them about an up comiing sim check with the a national and still passed the interview, otherwise the repetative phsyc tests will catch you out!

Oh and Im also short on hours by about 50 and they did state that they would not offer a contract until the minimum hours had been reached.

Hello,

I have an interview at Emirates next week. How important is it to bring the wife along and, of course, she wants to know what to wear and what will be the extent of her involvement in the process? Thanks in advance for any helpful responses.

Forrest, I'd say its only important to you and your wife, has not alot to do with EK. They will ask that your wife attend the HQ on the 2nd day for the afternoon tour of accommodation and medical clinic. They will ask if your wife has made the journey out to Dubai and if not why not. What your wife wears is her choice. Its you being assessed!

As others have said, Emirates with a family has the following mantra.... 'Happy wife, happy life'.

All the best

BG, roll your eyes all you want but IF you get hired here we shall see if your dismissive attitude toward EK complainers remains. I will say that those hired 2009 onward should know what they are getting into and have no room to complain. Oh, it was a while back, but they didn't ask me about any of that stuff you mentioned.

Hi folks,

Well my mail box is full of people sending me a pm asking questions about the interview and what the actual questions were. Well I'm afraid I don't have the time to reply to everyone individually but were I got all my info was in this very thread!

For those worried about the ATPL questions the ACE technical pilot book is all you need. I know there are errors in it and the fact you can spot them is a good thing! I'd say have a look at RVSM, etops, cold weather ops, fmc operations(no need for type specific but more the values you enter), performance and you will be ok!

Maths test brush up long division and square root as it will help you! They look for actual answers and it is all arithmetic based questions like what we use on a daily basis eg speed time distance as well as basic algebra and fractions!

Compass test is hand eye foot co ordination with some multiple tasking. It's not advanced compass for all you that asked so don't stress about that!

As for the interview have a look at the Ba dep selection thread. It is full of behavior type questions. Not many customer service questions so concentrate on flying scenarios of when something has happened within in the crew! Always think CRM in every answer and it will help!

Group exercise is dependent on the number in the group but it's all about how you communicate rather than the outcome! The ones who struggled at this stage and subsequently didn't make it their English wasn't the best so get as much practice speaking English as you can and if you don't understand anything say so or if you have a point to say make yourself heard! Guy on selection in other group had some excellent ideas which he shared afterwards but didnt have the confidence to interupt the rest of the group. Involve everyone!!!!!!!

Now the sim, visual cicuit easy enough. I did it in the a310 but really can't say much on pitch and power as I've forgot but trail and error. I got a "don't sink" message at one point, corrected for it, nothing said! FLY the plane and trim!!
Also a v1 cut, standard opc/lpc stuff we do every 6 months! Stick to your companies sop's! Do what you would in your bi annual sim check! FLY the aircraft!!

Now the selection procedure is changing with pre selection happening locally around the globe so if any of the above is valid I don't know and wouldnt say to anyone this is all you need to know!!

I had 1 week to prepare for my assessment and got all my info from here and the know the search function works!

Good luck and hopefully see you out there!

Is Emirates a good place to be a pilot?

G'Day all,

Not sure if this is the correct place for this question however there appears to be Emirates pilots currently looking at this thread,

Is Emirates a good place to work as a pilot?, are the crews generally good to fly with?, does management generally have its head screwed on correctly? Is the roster good/bad/indifferent?

I am currently looking at the airlines and wish to hear the views of people who actually work there. I am aware that all companies have good and bad points however would like to get a feel for morale etc

Pros and Cons welcome.

If this not the correct area to find this info could you please point me in the correct direction noting I already have substantial flying experience. (the wannabee section does not quite fit)

Cheers

apologies

My apologies SOPS, I was hoping to raise a response from someone who was reading this tread as I have been but not posting remarks on a regular basis, remarks that suggest that every emirates pilot is about to roll inverted and pull.
Opinions that contain the Pro's and Con's in a rational manner are few and far between. I have come to the conclusion quickly that this is not the best place to find information that does not require well above the normal grain of salt.
This would be a very short thread indeed if all the attitude was removed.

Thanks Trent,
Trying to see which airline is correct for my situation, so many things to take into account before applying, not interested in wasting others time or my own. Airlines in differing countries make for a challenge when trying to compare apples with apples so to speak. Different perspectives are a big help.
Once I have figured which airlines suit, I will sink my teeth into the interview process.

Thanks again Bulldog
