70% payrise on the way!

....but only if your name's Al

From the National 21 Dec
Emiratis working for the federal Government will receive a 70 per cent rise in their basic salary. Yesterday’s announcement means the basic monthly salary of ministerial undersecretaries, who are at the highest grade of federal government positions, will increase from Dh31,250 (US$8,500) to Dh53,125. The lowest-grade government workers will see their basic pay rise from Dh1,175 to Dh2,000. The scale also applies to jobs at bodies under the jurisdiction of the federal Government, including nurses and doctors in Ministry of Health hospitals, and teachers in state schools. The new levels do not apply to expatriates working in the same roles.
and it goes on

In fact, Ima, they've had an increase of 104% on their original salary of three years ago - not bad at all!

That's the way to run an economy... drain those coffers, before the cousins get their hands on it!

Of course, prices of consumer goodies (the staples of life here) and food will go up now that the locals have more to spend.

What a joke... and as always only possible in the UAE...

On second thought: look at the broader picture.
After the big up last month this is probably the only way to keep the emiratis in the street QUIET...

this was taken strate out of the "beans or bullets?" chapter of the book "leadership for dictators"

dictatorships keep power by dishing otu beans. if that don't work, then come the bullets. the uae fortunately has lots of beans and often there are second or third servings and that keeps the local peasants happy. this is the easier way of keeping power in the long run if you are fortunate enough to have surplus beans and aren't too greedy- jist buy everyone off. most poorer dictatorships don't (or they are too greedy to share the beans) and so they resort to bullets, as can bee seen by some of the gcc's neighbors and other 3rd word countrys. it will be interesting in years ahead when there are less beans.

Hate to put a dampener on all the excitement but there was no actual pay rise - all that happened was that existing additional allowances were rolled into basic pay which will increase pensions and any future pay rises. Actual take home pay didn't change.

But dont let me spoil a good story

Whether they got it or not who cares! If someone gets something good why can't you just be happy for them.

Summary:

Emiratis working fer the government get a 70% uplift.

Emiratis (the scant few of 'em) in private sector don't. But they were on a higher pay scale since 2007 anyway. They are mildly affected, let's say.

Expatriates, who do all the fu&#ing work hereabouts get the square root of #@ck-all. And no profit share since there's now 100% taxation by government fiat as of 21 Dec 2009. Henceforth I'd like it to be called "Black Monday" for all Dubai expats.

Ladies an' Gents, this is a pretty serious blow to the financial advantages of expat life.

Rhetorically speakin' - If there's no profit share, what's the incentive to keep workin' economically? If it's jus gonna be the drudgery of paycheck to paycheck livin', what's the point a doin' it over here?

Single engine taxi, company fuel, optimum cruise levels in bumpy air (see the thread on the Durban mishap entitled Durban Landing (slight misnomer that 'un), I reckon' I've had enuff a this ****. The gloves 'er off.

Mrs Clark's little boy wrote a smug 'congratulatory' letter about 40,000 incident reports in a single year. Big deal. Jes another exercise in corporate flim-flammery. If it can't be monitored it can't be managed. That's a pile of buffalo ****! ALL THERE IS IS MONITORING AND DATA GATHERING. There's a total cognitive failure to act on any of those reports. They're not actually doing anything with the data. If he had any gonads at all he'd let us know the truth: Fatigue reports at Emirates Airline have not produced one single schedule change in 7 years of ultra-long haul flying. Zip,Nada,Zilch. The ONLY thing that was adjusted was the LAX, SFO, GRU, IAH night-stops were adjusted ta 48 hours from 24. Big &%$@in' deal... Hell, in any given week about 10% of those reports are because Cabin Crew injury resulted in a sore shoulder or broken nail... what a bunch a pussies. Utter corporate pathology.

Time to sack up.

Keep 'er safe amigos.

Hey SlipStream Man GRU layover in hotel your lucky if you get 27 hours...where did you get that 48 hr layover crap from...

Ima... sorry, my apology for that mistake. I thought you got 48 hrs...

Payscale: As to the specificity of Federal gov't... although the seat of the UAE Gov't is in Abu Dhabi, it's many tentacled departments are throughtout the entire nation. That includes Dubai. This would cover departments like Immigration, Armed Forces, Gov't Hospitals... Given the overall state of development and education here in the UAE, I predict that the gov't sector employs many more Emiratis than the private sector. It's just a hunch; I couldn't prove it an' have no hard numbers to back me up.

My main point is this: expats are hurting, we're doin' the lioness' share of the work and our cup ain't exaclty runnin' over...

"Cheer up mate, things could be worse"
So I cheered up, and sure enough, things got worse!
