EY 340 FO roster
Hi there,
Would any kind EY 340 FO please care to email me their last two or three rosters? After much searching and trawling through the threads I cannot seem to find any useful info. Liquid refreshment will be owed when I get there!
Many thanks in advance,
NZ

Hi NZ (Kiwi I gather) ,
First of all let me say welcome to EY, although I'm not an F/O I can assure you that while you're on the A340 only (before you get CCQ on A330 as well) you will love life.
Your average roster will have a JFK, a SYD or a MEL and a LHR. As the A340 does all the ULR's (ultra long range) except Toronto you will be limited to no more that 3 ULR flights per month. That means in all practical terms 14-16 days off and at least 75hrs.
Enjoy every minute because when you get CCQ'ed on the A330 as well things will change.
Still a great airline, great cockpit atmosphere with great guys and galls.
Cheers

Thanks, EY346Driver,
That sounds good. When would you expect to be CCQ'd to 330 then?
Much appreciated,
NZ (not Kiwi!)

It's a bit pot luck but certainly after a year. There were guys who got it after 8 months or so.
The objective is to get everyone cross qualified on both A340 and A330 as some of our flights operate both types
Hope that helps
Cheers

Hi Shanwick,
Welcome to EY to you too mate. Guys the A340 trips are mostly 24hr layovers as flights like JFK are daily. SYD however has increased frequency so we do get up to a 48hr layover certain days. ORD (Chicago) is still 48hrs but will soon be daily so 24hrs there too.
Once you get CCQ'd onto the A330 too you'll be working a mix of A330 and A340 trips. My average roster now is 1 or 2 ULR's usually a JFK a SYD and 2-3 European flights on the A330 or a single ULR and 3-4 A330 flights.
As I said earlier though it's a good airline, great people so flights are quite pleasant. The flightdeck sticks together and we usually have a nice bevvie down route together.
Cheers guys

Shanwick and NZ,
Good news about the EY positions. I take it you are furloughed VS pilots. Do you know whether any of the 400 drivers who will be furloughed have been offered 777 slots? Do you typically get offered Airbus for Airbus experience and Boeing for Boeing experience at EY?
Cheers

The B777 is a smaller fleet, if you are Airbus qualified you will be placed on the Airbus. If you are 340 only, try and avoid CCQ for as long you can, the rosters and life style are more stable. Since I got CCQ'ed on the 330 the flying has gotten more interesting but very much harder, I've done close to 100 block hours each month for the last three months , two ULR's plus a number of all night FRA, MUN, MAN, CDG, LHR's each month. The flying is enjoyable as you normally work with some great crews. The cabin crews treat the front end pretty good and if you are relatively young you can look forward to some very nice company on days off.Expect to work hard though.

NG Captain,
Thanks for your input. How do the 777 rosters compare to the A340/A330 rosters? I presume there is no difference in pay. If a pilot is hired with 737NG experience, would the 777 be more likely than the A340/330/320/319 fleet or would that not matter as much? I suppose the fact that your name is NG and you are on the Airbus probably answers my question. If that is the case, where are they sourcing their 777 pilots from and will there be much growth in that fleet in the future?
Cheers

Hey guys. Just looking for some info on EY hiring. I know the website says that they are looking for type rated guys, but does any one know if they have been prone to take on guys with out type ratings? Currently have a total of 5000hrs and of that 1,000 or more is on the 737 NG.Kindly assist.cheers
A few days ago one of the recruiters told me they were only hiring rated pilots. So if you are a 320 pilot that is where you'll go and the same if you are a 340 pilot. But in a year or so you will be trained on the 330. Pot luck if you are a 330 pilot, odds are though you will get typed on the 340. I wish back on the days when I was only 340 qualified, life was stable, you got your hours and ten to sixteen days off.

A320
NG Kaptain,
If you're rated on the A320, you'll go straight to the A320 for about a year, then on to the A330. Is that correct?
How does hiring look for the next months?
thanks,
JF

That looks about the time span. Guys in the pool are being called in, so there will be a bit of hiring til year end. We can only speculate on 2010 but by 2011 and 12 there should be alot of hiring.
