Hats and ties; the Official decree

From the beautifully laid out, expensively laminated flyer "The Emirates Pilot Uniform; The image of professionalism";

Quote;

"Hat; It may be removed on board the aircraft, or whilst seated"

"Tie; May be removed once in the flight deck, but must be replaced whenever leaving the fight deck"

So, if a Capt tells you to put the tie back on..tell him to GF!! I think for FOs, this is the only reason to keep this marvelous document in your flight bag..shove it under the nose of the tosser Capt that comes up with that sort of crap.

And by the way..."the image of professionalism??????" At the end of my last far east flight that had started off at 0300, and where the flight was full so therefore no "soft blocked" seats for my crew, I looked at my crew waiting for the train to the other side of the terminal. They had had no reasonable rest, and they were looking ABSOLUTELY shattered..bags under their eyes, sitting on their suitcases, yawning etc. So, our company focuses on wearing a friggin hat "so it looks good", but our crew look like something dragged out of the rubbish bin because EK is too stingy to provide adequate rest either on flights, or for that matter between flights.

A firm grip of the non-essentials!

And no comments about me keeping the uniform flyer please..I keep it for amusement purposes when I'm by myself..keeps me off the porn sites for another three minutes.

Regarding the no back packs etc...

I always preferred the old time favourite LULU hypermarket for foodstuff plastic bags. Great reactions, especially in the LHR terminal!

Do not let them catch you guys...

I would hate to see EK going the same way as QR did a couple of years ago. EK used to be the benchmark airline for this region. Without that there will be no dignity left!

Qr

In Qatar Airways rules are made to be obtained and if you dont do it you get a warning letter by CEO or he tells GMFO to give it to you .Minumum rest flights are not intrest of CEO ( keeps flights going) Aircrafts landing below minimum fuel (not important) it save fuel Crew fatique ( its ok as longe flight was done ) School alowance lower then standard ( its ok there is Pakistani school)Rostering staff not doing there job ( thats fine as long as they dont help the crew ) If a Capt delay a flight for 6 min he will be given a warning letter but if a roster issue leave 5 months late thats fine ( who care about pilots leave) Its more important who will escort him to promotion flights then pilots welfereHe removed good Qatari management ( H.B ) and put in funny one I never served military but i was told its so similar : you are here to obay the order not to think He manage to put in place people who will listen 100 % what he say and never say NO and i am sure most of them will stay there for ever ( example Mr Snake ......etc) It is more important how you look ( hat ,tie..) then how you fly .In QR you need clereance for fleet transfere,upgrade,leave,go to toilet or any kinda movment and you will NOT get it if you brake one of rule .He stopped cabin crew entering cockpit and manage to put it in OM (A) now days he stop CRM ( mix pilots and CC ) in same class One day he might come with any stupid rule and it will be supported ( when you aske answer is : "you know how it is over here"

Yes I start my PA with Captain "..."
I am in command of the aeroplane and am not inviting any passenger to address me by my first name. There are standards which I intend to maintain.
Ask any of the Nigels if they had any problem with calling their superiors 'sir'.
This is an airline; there is no income without aeroplanes moving from A to B and that means a Captain and that means we are the most important people in this business. Think of the EK clinic; the Doctors there are religiously called by Dr "first name". We are called by our first name only but this an airline not a hospital. There is no respect for us and I for one will insist on it. To do otherwise is a slight on our profession/job/trade.

I have to say that I find the "Dr First Name" business demeaning for the doctors, who should be given more respect and be addressed by their surnames. It's almost as bad as the madness EK IFS has just introduced of calling our passengers "customers".
