I've never met so many incompetent people in such senior positions anywhere in the world.

That's the best description of EK management/operation I ever heard

I beg to differ. Marketing is excellent, and Sales is not too bad either. EKs success is built on that. Operations seemed safe, but the cost-cutting BS is undermining this big time, that's where the first mangement blunder start. At the time it's simply disregard for human aspects, as I am sure at least some of the up there know what they are effectively ruining.

Now to the

This is true for HR leadership in general. But what to do with leaders who have never experienced such a thing throughout their lives in this bigot and backward society. They only put in managers with a neanderthalian leadership attitude, so they speak and act on the same level. Add to that the creeping emiratisation (not the fact in itself, but the hasty and double standard way it is implemented) and you have recipe for failure.

Do something about it, then

LHR 3, et al, given you feel so strongly about all this, may I ask you two very simple questions, please?

What are you doing about the problem you've identified?

How much of your salary have you put aside to help the people you've identified as unjustly treated?

Yep Dubai is crap!

I come from good England along with the Panorama programme makers. We have it much better there. In Dubai they pay a bunch of workers much more money than they can earn at home, don't forget if you have a job you get $100/month but unemployment in India, Pakistan and Bangladesh runs at astronomical levels and for many workers the sheikhs generate some hope propping up whole families at home.

In England we pay taxes so that we can look after the unfortunates by paying benefits and giving them houses. Those lucky ones in receipt then bring their entire family over to get more benefits. After a while the benefits get spent on TVs (made by exploited Chinese workers), clothes (made by exploited Sri Lankans making $50/month) and all sorts of other trinkets made by exploited workers around the globe. Then because they are bored they go to the mosque listen to Abu Qatatda and blow us all up.

Now some of you will cry racism but it isn't, its realism. Rather than exploitation of workers, the story sounds more like the British and Australian habit of enjoying Tall Poppies being cut to the ground and then p!ssing on the remains.

As I said at the start, Dubai is crap but nowhere near the bottom of the world crap rankings.

LOL - I've heard the same at every airline I have worked with and heard exactly the same when talking to guys from other airlines.

Perhaps it's an airline thing?

Helping Hands...

4PW et al:

Please please look at: HelpingHandsUAE

(do not be confused with Helping Hands the cleaning company, this is Helping Hands UAE... just go to the link).

Look at the latest news flashes to see what they are urgently trying to do. Men without any money abandoned by company bosses (who have already left their cars at the airport); men on Dh/- 1.90/hr, 14 hour days, 7 days a week.

This is something we cannot do much about on our own albeit we can show more compassion and understanding to their plight. Practically Helping Hands can do something more substantive. It is a local organisation trying to tackle the issue and all of our help would be very gratefully received.

If anyone knows of any others such organisations please post the details here but please take a moment to consider what they do and perhaps consider donating something.

But have looked at it from that other window in u're mind: All the western companies are rushing to this "exploiting" countries to make BIG BUCKS cos labor is cheaper there...Ain't this western companies also to blame for "exlpoiting" this poor people??? Have your companies there and pay them western salaries then...of cos they wont cos this companies cant make the big bucks then!!!!...and whose buying all this really cheap products by the way???? Not the poor ppl from this "third world"... Remember during the colonial times the western world raped the third world of its resources, now hidding behind the curtain of globallisation doing the same thing but just using a different name...

The day the western world starts treating the rest on equal terms(and I'm not talking just lip service here)(just look at all the f#@k*#g racist remarks made on this site) ,these poor ppl wl stop listing to Abu Whoever..

Remember when the buying stops the killing will too.....in so many ways you cant imagine....

"About 2500 immigrants are found dead every years around the Spanish shores, France is hunting illegal immigrants at school gates when they come to pick-up their kids, these are few example of sad stories happening around the western world. West African immigrants are often coming from potentially wealthy countries such as Gabon, Nigeria and Congo while EU companies are exploiting commodities at almost no cost... but it's true that this is not slavery, but only stealing..."

Are you kidding or what ?

You know as well as me , illegal immigrants in UE countries have rights, perhaps more than the legal ones (!).
And don t talk about the african countries, and the multinational companies, because I never got, as you , any wealth from there, and i am not responsible for the (de)gouvernance of the african elites !

I shall watch this programme with interest. Anything which helps to expose the hypocrisy and the vileness of this awful regime is good. Hopefully people will choose, as I have done, to stop flying on Emirates (a good airline in most respects) in order to aovidhaving to set foot in Dubai.

Couple of points:

1). We're all here now because we dont want to pay the taxes that support progressive democracies...so stop the sanctimonious critique of DXB...we were'nt press ganged to the sandpit.,,we're greedy like those you seek to assail.

2). EK mgt are crap??...10% margins,...highest in the industry. Their job is not to take care of you, its to take care of the shareholder(s). And if you hadn't figured out who the shareholder is when you signed the contract then, you deserve nothing.

3). Maids in DXB have maids in PH. taking care of their kids. Is it crap? Of course. Is it better than what they had? Yes. Again ..supply v. demand.

4). LR3 - when are you going to step up to the plate and leave,,,seriously man, have you no balls. Year in, year out - a broken record of misery, yet you have done nothing about it.
Sad.

None of the above is optimum...but it is free choice,

I enjoyed reading the article whether it was plagiarised or not. I can't help feeling I was reading about a modern day Sodom and Gomorrah. The desert took those cities back as well.

Yes, I realised after posting that it was an old thread, and that I'd seen the programme. I had rather hoped that this was another one to discredit the hypocritical dictatorship of Dubai.

Your view, you're quite entitled to it. I'd call you the hypocrite if you're living there and profiting from the exploitation.

Edited to add - if you don't like hypocrisy and vile regimes then why are you still in Zuma's land
Am I? Assumptions can be wrong. There are no double standards in Zuma's land, it's openly racist, corrupt, and inept.

It is NOT free choice. It is the responsibility (the only choice) to have bread on the table... Because if we had a choice, we would not be here with few or some exceptions.

My view, quite correct. I get paid for doing a job! End of story! Now get off your high horse and come back down to Earth

Everybody has an opinion, me too....
Before I get any crap, I would like to say it up front, don’t come knocking on my door if the shoe doesn’t fit....
Just drive around Silicon Oasis and you will see many boats, bikes, expensive cars.... and you will see many philippino maids running after kids, you will also see many gardeners, you employ them and pay them the same amount as a local company, not a dime more so why are you so upset about the working condition of those poor Indian workers? Pay them 5-6k a month, you can make a difference! Any of you know your maids birthday, have you ever bought her xmas present?
If you actually talk to them like human beings, they will talk back and tell you stories, theirs and others, they will tell you what they think of pilots and their wives, they hate you for treating them like sh@@t. They also talk among themselves and they share all sort of gossips, like who screws who.
Why do you need a maid or a gardener? A man is very proud of his backyard deck and grass in the good old U.S.A. but here? You pay 50 dirhams for a poor sucker.
Maid? Your wife drives to different malls in a tank that sucks 10 gallons per minute and the maid works her a$$ off.
So don’t come with this b.s. about human rights.
