‘the world's five star airline'
Qatar Airways has unveiled its new advertising campaign, with the tagline, ‘the world's five star airline'.
The Doha-based airline is launching global television, print and online marketing to promote its rapidly expanding worldwide network and services.
Management has said it wants the television commercials, which have been shot in a variety of exotic locations, to represent the airline's best assets, including, cuisines, award winning hospitality, premier class terminal and international networks.
Qatar Airways chief executive officer Akbar Al Baker, said: "We have developed and evolved into an airline of choice. But there is no room to rest on our laurels, which is why we have to maintain our strong position in the market and project our best attributes to the travelling public.
"Our new global campaign aims to further strengthen our position as an airline of choice and we are confident viewers and readers will be able to connect with the campaign giving them a feeling of being part of the Qatar Airways travel experience," he added.

According to my local rag today ( not overfar from the Empty Quarter ) , some dude called 'Backer' or somesuch , says that Qatar have 60 hulls and 200 odd on order ? So , by my estimate , there will be 2 airlines bigger than BA in the Gulf in a few years . Problem is , that BA have 60 million locals to tempt ( admittedly with much competition ) and a large European and American clientele that still think BA is the best/safest etc . Where are those numbers in the Gulf ? and BA have proved recently that despite their seemingly non-stop problems / strikes etc , can still cut the mustard and make a profit - make that HUGE profit ,( jet fuel price excepted , but what is their Hedge Price ? ), and they WILL weather the storm without the aid of subsidised jet-fuel that all ME carriers enjoy .
BA's biggest problem is their cabin crew , or more correctly , their union.
The Gulf airlines do not have that problem . No unions , keen young things from 'poor' countries etc , so no doubt a better experience for the pax.
Qatar Airways is built on sand and oil , I have yet to hear of anybody going there on holiday. They are entirely focused on 'through ' traffic .
Check back in 20 years , let us see who is still standing / popular.

The ME is just happens to be well placed geographically - in the centre of a lot of people. It is a bridge from one side of the world to another and ALL the airlines here rely on that fact for their success.
There is NO DOUBT that this region can sustain all of the orders they have placed - well, at least nod oubt in my mind - especially considering the cost of fuel now and in the future.
Some will suceed in the ME and some will fail or reduce in size. The only way they can all continue is if the governments continue to throw money at them and, I would think, at some point even the wealthy will stop throwing money away.
Will be an interesting decade!!!!!
As for BA etc. They don't stand a chance. The service on the ME carriers is far superior to anything that Europe or NA can offer. I wouldn't bother paying for a ticket on any of those carriers to only be ignored, served poor food and generally be mistreated. All of the ME airlines offer great service and it is something no one can seem to match in the West.

Often tech delayed for hours...We called the GF L1011 "The five star Tristar disaster"...they would play the music repeatedly of ... "A tall ship standing in the harbour!" and By Christ at 2am delayed six hours with a cabin temp of 38 degrees (broken APU) as a sleepy F/O I really wished I was on that "Tall ship standing in the harbour"..bugger was that was probably tech delayed also if GF had anything to do with it!

Could be.... but it is supposed to be shorthand for "40inches of manifold pressure and 80 knots IAS for lift off " the "60 knts abort if the tail does not fly" has been omitted....easy guess now what was my first airline aircraft.

5* prison cell?
Unfortuantely it sounds as though the prison cell you get thrown into for resigning is far from 5*

The Worlds 5 star airline
TRADER:
I agree that the ME airlines are superior to B.A however there are a few things to remember when making a comparison:
B.A have excellent SEP standards, I found it quite worrying when certain cabin crew at QR had a poor grasp of English, not very reassuring in an emergency, I remember asking a crew member once(during a bar service) to pass me a beer from her bar, it took her 5minutes for her to understand my question.
I wouldnt necessarily agree that the food is better, B.A have superb food and snacks available to pax in economy in between services on their long-haul flights.
You really wouldnt have Mr. W. Walsh demoting the Cabin crew over rediculous things or hauling the cabin crew into the office due to a pax complaint i.e there wasnt enough ice cream in First class.
B.A crew are not working illegally and not working when exhausted unlike the QR crew and Flight Crew. My friends at QR are constantly telling me of their intense, demanding rosters. Not exactly good for safety in my opinion.
B.A have set many standards which many, many other airlines have copied, B.A were the first airline to introduce flat beds for example. Even the title The Worlds 5 star airline is a little similar to the Worlds favourite airline from B.A.
You may get superior service in the middle east, I agree but from a safety point of view I know who I'd prefare to fly with any day.

As regards you point on BA's general safety.....Watchdog slams BAs air safety - Times Online
That doesn't make BA unsafe, they are extremely safe (but human also), just like Qatar Airways

The worlds 5 star airline?
All of the B.A crew have rights at the end of the day and are allowed to speak up if necessary unlike QR.
I agree there are many hard working crew at QR but you ask the crew at QR who are genuinly happy there and compare it to B.A then you will see a huge difference in morale. QR have a huge turn over of staff unlike B.A. Many staff at B.A stay there for years and years which can hardly be said for QR.

over the years many British Expat cabin crew and Bahrain national stewards at Gf have resigned to move into British Airways...to rosters they described as a holiday....I do not recall any British Airways cabin crew moving the other way in 26years.
