Some questions about Qatar (QR)
I am an FO rated on the B777 and got an invitation to Doha.
I searched the forum but did not found any information about the following questions:
1. How many OFF days in a row can I expect each month ?
I heard some rumors about 5-6 days in row and maybe more in the future.
Is it possible to leave Doha during this days ? Is there any rule when to be back to Doha (i.e. 1 day before, etc)
2. In general, how about the roster for an FO on the B777 ?
many short flights ? how many off days in total, etc.
3. I am currently living in a city which is just 3.5h away from Doha and served on a daily basis. I do not want to bring my family to Doha. Do you think it is possible to go home between long-haul flights for just 1-2 days ? Are there any restrictions from Qatar ? I heard I need a permit to leave the country ?
4. How long will it take to get on the left seat on the 777 for someone who is joining now ?
5. What do you think in general. I am currently flying for a company which gives me about 12-15 OFF days where 10 days are in a row. I am flying just long-haul or ultralong-haul with on average 3 flights per month with about 70-80 hours. Life-work balance is good but money is bad.
Do you recommend Qatar or do you advise to stay where I am ?
Thanks alot for your help

Medical Question
Hi everyone, I have recently offered a job as a captain in Qatar airways and I am really concerned about the medical. The thing is that I have to resign from my current job in order to start the process of the medical etc. Since I was a kid I had latent tuberculosis which means that it was never an active disease and I was totally immunized through treatment. In Europe this is not a problem with the medical. I have read that the GAMCA medical is really strict with TB. Do I have any chances of being accepted or not?
Thanks!
Thanks!

Commuting from the Gulf is difficult if not impossible...
They do not give you a COMMUTING contract, like some companies in the Far East.
Even if today you find an opportunity to commute, tomorrow it might not be there, so I would not bet on it.
IMHO

just the truth !!
Hi Capt.
First let me tell you, I applied to QA some years ago and they really want to know your real medical condition. Any omission of information can let you out of the game.
My best recommendation, tell them the truth and get all the paperwork to show them you are fine and without the TB.
You will be fine for sure!!
By the way, are you Type Rated in the Qatar position offer?? And when did you start the process? Thanks, it's just to check if the line is moving up.
All the best for you!!

Nick2012, if you are UK based, there is an AME at Stansted, Peter Orton, who can issue Qatari Class I medicals. A chest x-ray is required.
Maybe invest a bit of cash first before resigning?

To be honest I have no idea about this issue, have a medical check comming up for my spouse will ask them if I remember.
Otherwise I suggest you to just send them an E-mail nick and ask.
Greetings and best of luck

Also I read somewhere that in the case you have a scar in the X-ray, even if the disease is not active and even if you had the treatment etc they will not accept you in Qatar for residence visa. Is this true ?

Hi guys, happy new year for everyone!
Do you know when does QA will start calling Direct Entry Capts from the Holding Pool?? Or any estimate?
Or how is the situation down there in Doha?
I've been holding since Feb 2015, and there is not much more fuel to go.
I'm a B737 current Capt by the way!
Take care guys, and be safe!

It can be a case by case evaluation, but the airline has nothing to do with this process... It is mentioned that if you have some "spots" on your x-rays you are not accepted, but than there are doctors assessing your situation.
It is a limit situation, you could be rejected or pass..

Qatar airways has officially revised the 12 months to 18 months from interview date. God bless the HR. Brilliant news received by email.
Cheers

It seems that many of the holding guys, received the same email.
Now we can expect 18 months instead of the 12 initially.
And we can assure we are considered to continue our processes.
Good luck to eveyone!!
Be safe guys!! 🛬

got it as well ....
badly looking forward to hand my resignation to the bean counters that screw their front line staff after years of hard work with massive paycuts while paying new multi million bonuses to its management and announcing record profits.
