They say on their site that type rated B777 and B737NG rated would be given preference.

Tagalanga...I wish i can ride a bicylce here,as Doha has a really pleasant weather during the winter time, but unfortunatly there is no infrastructure here for that, they should but.. (i think this will help to ease the traffic jam here.. that's another discussion, and i can't really imagine a qatari family giving up their Landcruiser for a bicycle..).
So Follow CPT Krunch advice; DON'T DO IT! This would be a suicide act!

Bring it . I use to ride my bike inside the A K G and by the Corniche when i was living in Doha and flying for QR. For sure going out on the street and roads is crazy, even using a car.The Doha residents skills while driving are very low.

If you have the Airbus type or B777 type consider other options bro. Doha sucks and the Company is a NO NO.

I understand that they would give preference to TR people but what does it cost to send a group mail to those who were invited to select dates in Feb ?
Yesterday I received an Email from Air France still following up an old application. They just wanted to inform me that there will be delays in the process due to the crisis.

I even sent an Email to QR last Thursday asking for updates and didn't get any reply. I still believe a minimum of respect should be delivered to applicants, even if QR managed to find better candidates at the last minute.

There's no respect on QR. The sooner you learn that the better for your career.
Go there ,take a look and you will see that MONEY is NOT EVERYTHING!

Thanks for the advice but that's easy to say when your family is secured by your salary. Some people are not in the same situation.

I agree brother. I did this mistake because of the same reason and i can guarantee that was the worst mistake i did in my whole career.
When you realize the mistake you gonna remember this message.

There are another options.

Go foward. But is up to you. If you end up in Qatar ,use them as they gonna use you.

QATAR OPEN DAY Johannesburg South Africa 15 February 2009

Hi all

There is an open day whereby there will be recruiting new cabin crew for Qatar Airways. I will be attending but I honestly do not know what to expect.
  • How do I need to look (from hair, to outfit to make up if any)?
  • What usually happens in the selection process?
  • Are there any South Africans working for Qatar (the reason I ask is because I would like to have an idea of how great my chances are of being selected).
I'm very nervous, so if anybody has any tips and advise for me, they will be highly appreciated.

a good friend interview few days ago. Sim was on the 777 and he did a v1 cut, SE ILS, SE non-prec. raw data visual no A/P no FD.
As far as the interview, know your regs, fuel and altn requirements, RVSM, and basic aerpdynamics. Thats what he told me. I am on the same boat as everyone else. My interview dates passed i send them an email but no answer. Lets see....

you can take your lady along, but remember this is a professional screening for a International carrier in the Middle East. you might not want to be known as.. " you rememebr that guy, the one who brought his wife with him? ".

in the end it will not affect your screening results, but in this place you want to stay as straight as possible, anything can happen and for any reason, there are thousands of guys interviewing and applying. There is no need to leave yourself open for something stupid to happen.

as far as SIM, it's just standard, no tricks or suprises.

guys / girls.. at this point in time the dates you have picked for your screening cannot not always be matched. Just wait your turn and you will get a call if they want to see you.

How do I need to look (from hair, to outfit to make up if any)?
dress formal, ( important office meeting type ).. clean cut, neat appearance, well groomed.

What usually happens in the selection process?
things like group discussions, some kind of CRM oriented group activity, and personal interview screening.

Are there any South Africans working for Qatar
yes, plenty of South Africans here, not many flight deck but a reasonable Cabin Crew community. keep in mind we have more than 80 nationalities these days.. so we have all kinds of people, your chances are only up to your personal attributes not nationality.

next time this question might be better asked on the Cabin Crew Wannabees section of this forum, people on this forum and mainly but not limited to Flight Deck operators.

I'd be quite surprised that I will be one of a select few who choose to take their wives along to have a looksee at a place totally different from their home country.

It baffles me, cos almost every other ME carrier encourages their prospects to bring along their significant others as this is a decision that effects just not pilots themselves but their families as well.

Av8r76, why then do you ask the question? You are absolutely allowed to bring your wife and we all understand your reasons. Capt. Krunch is just trying to help you as your question was from the beginning little bit oriented. I don't think Doha is like Dubai and as you'll probably need to be on your own during the screening your wife might feel little bit bored.

you need to relax a bit, this is NOT Dubai and this is NOT every other airline, you must be able to adapt to the differences here like it or not or you will not survive here very long.

ok having said that, I have seen a few guy come here with the wife and stay a bit of extra time on their own tab, not a bad idea if you want her to help decide with you, but very costly.. Hotels here are VERY expensive for no good reason, and subject to availability as Qatar suffers from lack of hotel rooms and seem to always have some form of Forum, Convention and the like filling the hotels with dignitaries and diplomats.

S.F.L.Y is correct in saying, you'll be busy here and not alone in the interview process, the 2 days does not leave much time for personal exploration.

Anyone willing to "mentor" a soon to be furloughed United guy about Qatar Airways? I have some questions and would be willing to buy many beers for some answers and advice!

I have 10,000 TT B767 Type, Heavy+ Glass, along with a A320 type DC-9/MD80 Type, etc...I want to try to get hired for the B777. I'm single with no kids....

PM's welcome!

first off.. to answer some of your questions, use this forums SEARCH function. that should help.

second, have you applied on-line, Land a Great Career with Qatar Airways | Qatar Airways
that would also help.

buying beers might work for someone like me, but this is a muslim airline and might not be so favorable for a large group of others.
