I know several individuals had interviews for DEC last week...not sure what the “big” picture is.
I would guess like Emirates they have qualified FOs and will try to give them an opportunity to go to left seat- anytime man power requirements dictate, then they have individuals ready?

@Casablanca
If you take a look at master rosters for 777 and 787 you can tell that there are no DEC on training at the moment and the last one who joined did it about 6/7 months ago. Don't know about Airbus fleet.

Agree with OW, if all the current candidates are successful at upgrade and unless the "big picture " changes, we do not need DEC 777 skippers for the foreseeable future.. maybe 12 months allowing for retirements and leavers. FOs needed mainly on 787 fleet, infant, can't see any new starters on 777!

Hi everyone i was told that for 777 FO’s spend only 4-5 days in DOHA and the rest are layover and OFF days is that true? Also they have 10 off days in a row is that also true ? Thank you.

I don’t know the big picture- but they are calling Airbus and 777 Dec for interviews
I thought the 787 was quite stagnant for both captain and fo.... and quite short of FOs on 777 which seems to be the emphasis in recruitment at moment

Why they keep interviewing is just normal HR practice to have lots of irons in the fire, judging by the recent start date offers no DEC 777 have been tabled, all the new FOs we see are starting on the 787. What make you think we are "short" of FOs on the 777? proposed roster adjustments and less blocks off can easily cope with the fleet. Maybe the "good old days" are drifting away and we are becoming EK!

Exactly, we are hiring and training FOs on both fleets (Boeing). Double digit figures every month for the last couple of months.

B787-9 deliveries scheduled for 2019.

Hello Avenger thanks for the answer. Also, I'd like to know if the blockade is affecting the a320 family fleet a lot and that there has become a surplus of pilots there?

Thank you so much

yes: 320 family has been affected - no UAE, Saudi or Bahrain flights and flights that were once 320 now on other fleets (e.g EBB, KRT).

Most 320 pilots would say the effect has been positive on the roster - no 4sector days, mostly layovers with good European destinations and more flexibility in the roster for days Off.

Is there a surplus?... not really, FOs and Captains are being transferred to 350 every month. Some also went 330 last year. Also people leave and/or retire - and may or may not be replaced by external recruitment.

Depends on fleet and demand at that time but with 3000 hours, a command in 3 years is not realistic, you may need to add a few years.

Any idea how many candidates are currently in the DEC talent pool? For those in the pool, what criteria does HR use to make a join date offer (eg "seniority" list in the pool, or flying experience, or ....)?

Depends on if your 3K hours are on jets in an airline environment. Also depends if you are Airbus or Boeing fleet.

Rosters on the 777 for FO's are an absolute nightmare compared to last year and the year before, specially if you are freighter and IRP qualified you will end up with 130 to 150 duty hours a month. Its a never ending tiredness - hotels are getting worse every now and then.
Example Flight ; DOH - DFW , blocktime in the range of 15,5 hours. You will spend approximately 22 hours at the hotel before going back. The latest experiment is a trial to remove the guaranteed OFF block of 4 which is randomly assigned in each month (without leave), instead you will be "able to bid" for days OFF . (We all know how well that works)

There is a clear trend in qatar airways over the last few years when it comes to flight crew T/C; down. Think twice before you jump onto this train.
