Command Upgrade vs. Joining Qatar Airways
Any opinion appreciated about deciding command upgrade at the present company or joining Qatar as an F/O. What are the conditions and chances on upgrade in Qatar Airways. Thanks in advance

Which aircraft do you have an opportunity to upgrade on?
There is definitely an active upgrade program at Qatar Airways, and depending on fleet probably about 4-6 years wait at present.......there are a lot of hoops to jump through and failure is always a possibility
If you are able to upgrade at present company on Boeing / Airbus you will soon have many options to join as Captain in various airlines
There are many other factors such as whether you prefer long haul, on a wide body vs narrow body etc...

I am referring to the fact that the Recruitment website now requires widebody experience (I.e. 737 for a Direct Entry Capt is no longer relevant) for a DEC Boeing position. I am also stating that most DEC joiners on the Triple 7 nowadays are already widebody Captains (more competitive). Current fleet growth is on the T7 and a few 747F. 737 guys were being placed on the 787 in the past. It's a question of supply and demand.
As I said I am sure things will change if/when the 737 and new 787-9 arrive.
Not saying it's impossible to join as a current narrow body Capt especially if you have previous widebody experience as an FO.

Also, none of the other requirements states you have to have widebody experience.

What the website says and what they do maybe 2 different things. I am guessing your reading from the add referenced QR7735. That is an old add and been on the website a long time. If you have those requirements, apply, but does not mean you'll get an invite. Lots of First Officers getting upgrades on the 787 at the moment.
