Exclamation Rabbits at OMAA

Hi there

Have any pilots flying into OMAA come across any white bunnies there. I have encounterted them on two occasions. Once on the final roundout and today on rotation, and thats whilst being on the runway. Two of these fluffy creatures ran across the taxiway "Z" too.

Looks like birdstrikes are the least of our worries now that rabbits are plentiful too...

Please be careful ETIHAD guys... and safe flying.

Differences from rabbits

From Wikipedia:

Hares do not bear their young below ground in a burrow as do other Leporidae, but rather in a shallow depression or flattened nest of grass called a form. Young hares are adapted to the lack of physical protection offered by a burrow by being born fully furred and with eyes open. They are hence able to fend for themselves very quickly after birth, that is to say they are precocial. By contrast, the related rabbits and cottontail rabbits are altricial, having young that are born blind and hairless.
All rabbits (except the cottontail rabbits) live underground in burrows or warrens, while hares (and cottontail rabbits) live in simple nests above the ground, and usually do not live in groups. Hares are generally larger than rabbits, with longer ears, and have black markings on their fur. Hares have not been domesticated, while rabbits are often kept as house pets. In gardens, they are typically kept in hutches, small, wooden, house-like boxes that protect the rabbits from the environment and predators.
The hare's diet is very similar to that of the rabbit.

Blackhat10,
I think you really can't tell if it's a hare or a rabbit especially if you are inside a taxiing or taking-off airplane. I will have a good look next time so that I can confirm it.

Cheers,

A6

A harefield in an international airport? I think it's dangerous specially for jets to operate there since they can be easily sucked-in in those engines. I think the Safety and Security Department there should do something about this before something bad happens.

A mate tells a lovely story of having a rabbit get caught in the lights of a DC9 during takeoff.

The bunny took the decision to try and out-run the '9.

Result? Douglas Aircraft Corporation-1 Bunnies-0

It's a good thing DC-9's engines were at the aft and upper portion of the fuselage or else it could be a tie

Would that be called a road-kill or runway-kill?

Due to the construction on the new runway area to the north, the poor fella's are looking for greener pastures. They have been around as long as I remember but lately you observe them almost every night.

By the way...any of you seen the lizards?? Also been around for many years and nests on the left side of H/P "X". Seen them myself and I know some Dhabi pilots have reported them a few times to ATC.

What do we need next to start a zoo??

Devil Lizards .........................

Hi,

Hey Alpha 6, you hear that... there are Lizards too. May be next time you go to OMAA, you can take your pots and pans too with a bit of Adobo seasoning. You could have a party there, now that there are many things you can cook.

Safe flying guys.....
