Dubai Government Payrise

Announced tonight on Emirates TV News,

Shiekh Mo has decreed that all Government employees, Both National and Ex-pats, shall recieve a 20% pay rise on their BASIC pay, back dated to the 1st January.

Pity Emirates isn't really a government company, 6% on our basic from April seems at tad low, even if they tried to dress it up with flight pay.

Dubai 20% Payrise

His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister, has issued in his capacity as Ruler of Dubai a decree, ordering a 20 per cent raise in the basic salaries of all UAE national and foreign employees working in the emirate’s local government departments, press agency WAM has reported.
The employees will start receiving the pay increase, retroactive from January 1, 2007, with the first salary to be drawn after the human resources law number seven for 2006 takes effect.
The decree provides for adding the salary increase to the total pay of employees after being re-graded according to the new pay scale attached to the human resources law. However, such an increase shall not affect calculation of allowances that are based on the basic salary.

- Here we go again with the rampant inflation here.
- How does the recent pilots package increase look now.
- We are just playing catch-up, and falling further behind.
- January 1st!!! and the best EK can do is May (Maybe)!!
Disappointed!!

It will be exactly the same as last time. Locals will get the increase-do less for it,expats will have to wait and see-and eventually it will all disappear in the woodwork.
What a waste of time.
Roll on the revolution.

20% Pay raise???

Geez, if that's true, I'd challenge ANY one to find a better airline pay raise in one years time.... same seat, same length of service.

This is only for Govt employees, EK are not classed as Govt employees and while pilots are getting 16% or so, the rest of the airline is looking forward to the usual 2.5% linked to the "merit pot".

Devil UAE Government workers have had a 45 % increase in salary in the past 2yrs... EK ***$

You know in June 2005 the following announcement was made in the Gulf News
Effective May 1, UAE nationals working in federal government institutions will receive a 25 per cent increase on their basic salary, and non-UAE nationals a 15 per cent rise.

Big salary increase for federal employees
By Stanley Carvalho and C.L. Jose, Staff Reporters

The salary increase for UAE nationals and expatriates announced by President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan yesterday was unanimously welcomed by residents.

"It will also help increase savings and investment, and activate the economy, without impacting the budget due to anticipated high oil revenues," economists and bankers told Gulf News.

They were reacting to news that Shaikh Khalifa has ordered a salary raise for UAE nationals and resident expatriates, including civilian and military personnel working in UAE federal ministries as well as in local government departments in Abu Dhabi emirate.

Effective May 1, UAE nationals working in federal government institutions will receive a 25 per cent increase on their basic salary, and non-UAE nationals a 15 per cent rise.
Shaikh Khalifa hoped the move would ensure decent living conditions for UAE nationals and expatriates.

Hailing the decision, Shaikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Minister of Economy and Planning, warned businesses against trying to take advantage of the decision by increasing commodity prices.

"The Ministry of Economy and Planning will monitor commodity prices to ensure that prices are not increased. Necessary legal measures will be taken against those who would try to take advantage of the situation," she said.

So Government workers have a 45% increase in salary sanctioned by The Government in the past 2 years and EK Pilots have had.......??

We get 6 % increase in our Basic Salary to be paid end of May . If the Government can give a 45 % increase in 2 years why the reluctance from EK to come up with a better deal

PILOTS ARE GETTING 6%........not 16 or 19 just 6...

As for locals they 25% last year, non-nationals got 15%, only trick is I dont think the non-locals have had their 2006 rise yet .According to the local newspaper they "forgot" to pay it....yeah right.

And those figures are for Government institutions only, but somehow Emirates doesn't qualify as being a state run company.

Devil Basic Salary Increase will only be 6 %

Desertweasel Our future salary increase in MayWILL ONLY BE 6 % on the BASIC SALARY

You can argue statistically other wise which is what has been presented to the masses and is the company line however when you go down to the Mash Bank and they ask you for a Salary Certificate what do you think your golden piece of paper will say?

Our Basic Salary will only be increased 6 %

Company still have not come out with our Utility Review

Massive Inflation

I have to agree with Uplock.
Local government employees getting 20% and then 25% shows the real trend in the cost of living here in Dubai. This place is fast becoming more expensive than London in many aspects of life. I suppose gas/petrol is still cheap!
6% on our basic, in the light of this, is a complete slap in the face. The "flight pay" is a crafty accountancy trick which does nothing for long term prosperity, and is just there to try & stop people pulling sickies.
Ex pat jobs should carry an ex pat premium in the pay cheque. Doesn't seem that way anymore.
Shame

government employees dont really have the yearly increment/merit pay system ..the last two increases and the scale at which they've been done is to cover "lost ground"

its equally important to look at the number of employees in the federal institutions ..with more and more being transferred into newly-setup authorities, be them TRA, RTA, DPA et al reducing the burden on the federal budget
