A very good question A300 Man and one we were actually discussing on the flight deck the other night.
There will be more crew slowly transitioning from the A300 but this will not satisfy the need. Additionally they all need the 6 week transition course in France which means we won't see them online for at least 2 months. There are some new hires slowly trickling in but the 4 roster changes I have had in the last 24 hours would indicate that we aren't exactly flush for crewing the aircraft we have let alone more early next year.
Obviously there is a cunning plan and all shall be revealed in the next few months....

The chief pilot told me last week that they will start upgrading from A320--->A330.
The 320 fleet has had a lot of new hires in the last months and a lot more are comming. On top of that there is a bunch of second officers about to be released shortly, all going on the 320.
A 320 pilots only need 4 sim sessions and a ground course so they can be flying within 2 weeks....

Hi Qatari,
I donīt think that they will transfer A320 pilots to A330. There are around 20 crews missing on that fleet, after transition more.
That second officers need a long time to be released. They come with around 200 hrs from the college and require a lot of training.
New rumors say, that they will ask for exaple parc ... to send pilots. Maybe thats the solution.
Cheers,
drive

I'm sure any unemployed A320/330 qualified Pilot who is on Parcs books will have also applied to Qatar!!!
Don't think there are too many Airbus drivers out there looking for work, maybe AeroLloyd? More though if My Travel goes under though.

I just heard that some of the "new" A330s joining hte fleet next year will actually be second hand machines, albeit only a couple of years old. Does anyone know which airline previously operated these aircraft?

The two used aircraft are from Volare in Italy. The aircraft were only delivered to Volare in November 2002 so are relatively new. They will be on lease from GECAS.

The A320 will be almost on effective by next februari...Do not forget as well that starting from March the older 320s ( AB..series) will be leaving the fleet...
That will leave that fleet with some extra pilots to spare...
The next two 330s should be wetleased, this was announced allready a couple of months ago. They will be wetleased for a 'short' period of time. The little bird is whispering that those crews actually will make 4000USD more then the 'std' QR crews!
How about that as a morale boost!!!!!
On top of that the little bird is whispering as well that AAB and the board of directors refused a revised proposal for salary and package ammendements!!!
To be continued for sure....

The jobs on these 330s are being offered by CONTRACTAIR, they have been on their website for as long as this thread has been running. T&Cs not much different from the permanent contracts offered by QR.
A bit like the GF/Direct setup.
