CAA Class 1 Medical- History of Depression

Hi, I will be applying for a CAA class 1 medical. About 10 years i received medication for depression for about 3 months before it being no longer required.

Will i likely require further investigation or will this not be a blocker? Thanks

This will require likely referral to a psychiatrist for an assessment but shouldn't be a blocker given how long it's been.

Hi, I appreciate it’s been a while since this was posted but I’m in a similar situation. I’m applying for a class 3 but received a round of CBT for some social anxiety. The AME’s initial response to my questionnaire was that I may need some further examination.

How did yours turn out in the end?

Dealing with the CAA on this can be a bit of a process, but having it that far in the past is definitely in your favor. Usually, if it was a one-off episode over a decade ago and you’ve been off meds and stable ever since, it shouldn't be an outright blocker. You'll likely need to provide a report from your GP and maybe undergo a psychiatric assessment just so they can tick the box that there’s no risk of recurrence. It's more about the paperwork and proving "stability" than the actual history itself, so just stay organized with your medical records and be upfront during the exam.

Simple discussion with a psychiatrist usually. Just expect them to invoice accordingly!! Stability is key, as is having coping strategies and making positive lifestyle changes. These tend to go in your favour, though I appreciate they are all dealt with on a case by case basis. Ten years of stability is usually a positive.
