Medical - when converting from EASA to FAA

Hi Guys,

Can somebody please clarify what the procedure is for the Medical, when you are applying for a FAA ATP, based on your EASA ATPL.

ie, I am assuming you present yourself to an FAA AME and do a stand alone Class 1? I mean when the FAA are contacting your EASA issuing country for license verification, where does the medical come into this equation?

Do the FAA have access to your EASA medical records? I mean obviously they can get them but generally speaking, they are completing a medical from scratch?

Thanks a lot,

OB

Nope, they just give you a medical from scratch. There is not really an 'initial' like EASA. The FAA Class one is much more realistic vs the astronaut medicals in EASAland.

Yep, an FAA initial is more or less just an EASA renewal.. do them same time and save a shed of money

Keep in mind that having FAA class 1 medical doesn’t mean you meet the EASA class 1 requirements. So be careful when you go for your medical exam. Make sure you are absolutely healthy with good blood tests
