Overheating the brain....
I am one of these types that just turns on the sweat tap with very little effort. I am in very good shape.
The thing is I believe when I get hot (which doesn't take much), say, in the cockpit, I just can't seem to concentrate, to think about eta's, checks, lookout, instrument flying suddenly seems to overload me. I have a neck like a giraffe and humans evolved with necks because our brains would overheat if too close to the core (chest organs etc). I'm actually a bit concerned about this. Am I talking bollocks? A friend suggested yoga to control breathing etc. I just think its my metabolism. Any comments? SS |
Your friend is not talking bollocks. That is a very good idea. I do it too.
Also, try self talk. As in, ok, I need to do this, I have to work out this...calmy, not rushing at it. Another tip is to have your flight planned out as much as possible before you go. ie know what to expect at time such and such.. you general plan of attack at the circuit if the wind is *this* etc. This reduces the stress and therefore will reduce the "heat". If you are getting hot, I gather you are opening an air vent, wearing cooler clothes etc. Drink water, carry some cool water with you. Vital for preventing kidney stones later on. Good luck. ------------------ reddo A Feral Animal. |
