Comprehensive eye test

Does anyone know if the Comprehensive eye test every 5 or 2 years for class 1 been abolished yet? I seem to remember reading that it was no longer a requirement.I have tried the CAA web site but no clear answer there.

Hi there,

The good news is that as of June 2001 the comprehensive eye test was totally abolished as it was thought that it contributed little to flight safety, or something along those lines - no sign of a change in the near future! I believe that it is now the routine distance reading etc, etc at every renewal.

Hope this helps, good luck
