Increasing haemoglobin level ?

Hello all !

On my recent medical the Doc pointed out that my haemoglobin level was slightly high (17.1), it was pointed out that this had increased from 16.5 the previous year.

What could have caused this increase and how do I get the levels down ?, he mentioned that once the levels reach 18 a blood sample will be taken and analysed, what will they be analysing it for ?

thanks in advance for any replys !

Normal ! !

A change of 0.6 G/dl (either up or down) is totally insignificant, and should be regarded as within the bounds of what we all seek, ie STABILITY. CAA limits are very sensibly placed at 13 - 18 G/dl and
99 % of healthy adult males will fall in this range. For obvious enough reasons, some females will have slightly lower levels.

What we measure is a concentration, not an absolute amount of haemoglobin, so the figure can even be affected by how well or how poorly hydrated you are at the time of the finger prick !

Most common cause for a rise in Haemoglobin is smoking.

So if you smoke, stop that and it will likely return to lower levels.

As AMEandPPL says a 0.6 variation is not significant.
