IBS-Side effect

I've suffered with IBS since I was 11, and I've accepted that it's just one of those things. It is normally brought on by episodes of emotional stress, which aren't always apparent at the time.
I also suffer with occasional "night cramps", and muscle twitches. Normally in my calf muscles. These are excruciatingly painful, and normally leave me with a bit of a limp the next day.
A few weeks ago I was at work, and a friend suggested that there may be a link between my IBS and the cramps. He suggested that my Colon may not be absorbing some of the minerals which aid the transfer of nerve impulses, and that I should eat more Bananas (Yuk!!)
Could there be a truth in this?

I have no medical expertise, only my own experience, so I'll stick to that. Maybe it will have some relevance.

I had what was diagnosed as IBS for years. It fitted the general descriptions etc. Finally I had one doctor decide to do a thorough check (ultrasound) rather than just accept the diagnosis. I was found to have many small gallstones. My gallbladder was ulcerated and I had apparently had the problem for some time. I had it removed and they collected and gave me and I kept the enormous number of gallstones. They didn't keep the gallbladder for me, shame! It was done via keyhole surgery. I had no idea that what I'd known as IBS was actually atypical gallstone symptoms.

I didn't have IBS now. Amazing.

Keep an open mind.

Your leg problems are unlikely to be related to your IBS. Are you taking enough exercise?
