Tattoo's- the real risks.

My place of work is plastered with posters warning of the blood bourne risks of having a tattoo- hep c, hiv, hep b etc.

Any idea what the real risks are. Are there any parlours who will offer to tattoo using "new" unblemished needles?

The place I go to only uses new needles? I thought that would be the same everywhere?
The machine is covered in a bag to prevent any blood transfer from the machine each time a new person takes a seat.

Basically, everything is done in front of the customer, unpacking the needles, new bag, guy cleaning his hands, the place smells cleaner that any hospital.

Just ensure all the above happens and the risk is minimal, make sure you choose a design you can live with for life, that's the trick!

I personally don't have any but why we're on the subject of tattoos is it true that some Airlines frown upon them??

IMO the only tatoo worth having is Blood Group Type in your armpit which is the most survivable area after a major accident or fire

YYZ thanks for the info, I'm not sure if that's practice yet in the uk- perhaps I'll ask the tatooist.

Turkish, I'm not sure if that's still true. Theres an (old) medical adage , that women presenting with a tattoo were tested for syphilis, as they were more likely to have lead a promiscous lifestyle.

Jammy, good point, but wouldn't actually affect your management in an emergency situation.

Unless it's visible when u go for an interview, how will they know if you've got one?!?!?1
They're only noted on your clas sone medical as a mark from which you could be identified.

I've got one, I haven't got syphilis, and it's never been a problem.

"got caught"

The practices I mentioned are from both sides of the pond, I have been to parlors in both Canada & the UK, my regular one is in the UK.

And as said, some company's may frown on tattoo's if visible, mine are all out of sight and can only be seen if I’m not appropriately dressed, and I think my employer would sack me for that before the tattoo!

Don't over do it though, like this guy I met last week, you may notice him in an interview!
