Class 2 eye tests.

Not so much a question about the limits, but I was just wondering what is involved in the class two medical eye sight test.

Is it just "look at this board, and read the letters", or is it more thorough?

Just curious!

Cheers,

John.

Did mine last year - look at the board (my guy didn't even draw the curtains which was a bit odd) then look at some text connected to a ruler thing he puts up to your face, moving the finger around to check your field of vision, etc. Very basic exam - I had my contact lens prescription with me so not sure if that made it quicker but I wouldn't expect anything too involved either way.

Looking at your location you'll probably be going to see Trevor White!

A word of advice if you wear contacts, take your glasses with you as he likes you to do the test in your glasses.
And take the prescription of the glasses, I took my contact lens prescrition with me and he made me drop off my precription for my glasses at his surgery a week later before giving me my class 2!

Hey hey,

I don't wear glasses or contacts so that aint a problem! And Big Steve: it Dr Brown, forget his first name. Its at the Alnwick surgery...?

Also, do they issue with a class 2 certificate straight away, or do they leave you a couple of days wondering if you've passed. Would be nice to know as soon as its done, so I can get down to the club and sort flying out. (Dad refused to pay anything towards training, until I had my medical).

You should get it on the spot.

Trevor is at the surgery in Byker in the city centre.
Didn't realise there was one in Alnwick, you learn something new everyday!

I got told there were no problems the day I done it, although he said he'd phone me in a day or two when it was ready (had it done at 8.30pm so it was getting quite late and Trevor looked knackered) got a phonecall a couple of days later saying I gave him the wrong prescription. I took the right one along the next week and he stamped and signed the certificate right then and gave it me.

Since I've only had the one medical so far I can only speak from my experience.

Good luck with your medical, and with the first solo when comes along!

Hi, had mine done late 2004, just reading letters off the board, shining a torch into both eyes asking to look up, right, down, left. Checking pressure points, where they blast some air into your eyes (some may find it painful ) and also move a red ball on a stick along from the far corner of your eyes to see if at any time it vanishes.
