what
what happens if you fail your class one medical at gatwick i heard you can a deviation or something what is it :oh:
|
I think it would depend on what you failed it on. Obviously there are some serious conditions that would preclude you from piloting at all, but some merely restrict the kind of work that they'd allow you to do. For example: I did my C1 a couple of weeks ago and while chatting to a doctor/nurse was told that one of the things they check is curvature of the spine. If it's present then they might not clear you to fly helicopters and a military career would be out. Fortunately I passed it all with no problems. (And no spine issues thankfully as I want to fly helos!)

I believe Deviations are mostly possible for those very close to laid-down criteria such as eyesight requirements.
It's a case by case thing. V1R |
okay so guess i fail the longsight eye test and i get this devition thing or what ever what does it entitle will i be only to work on cartain aircraft or what
thanks in advance ;) |
Longsightedness is different because, in most people, it gets worse with age, whereas shortsightedness gets better. Give the medical section at the CAA a ring and speak to Dr Adrian Chorley - he is a top bloke and will help you with any of your queries.
Best of luck, Maz |
medical
Does this deviation have anything to do with the post about g.y pilots???
|
The Deviation classification only stays on your medical certificate until you finish commercial flying training - once you have the CPL/IR or fATPL it is lifted i.e. your medical certificate becomes a bog-standard Class I. The only restriction is that your training must take place on UK-registered aircraft - not an issue if you're doing your training in the UK anyway. I f you wished to do training elsewhere, you would have to get the permission of the appropriate authority in that country, as I understand it.
Case study: I fall just outside of the astigmatism limits for a Class I but within the RENEWAL limits. I currently have a Class II and have recently started my PPL training. Upon completion of the PPL I will be able to be examined to renewal standards for the Class I. Assuming I stilll meet the standards, I'll be issued with a Class I (Deviation) - this allows me to do commercial training. Upon completion of the commercial training the Deviation will dissappear. Lots of hassle and loads of hoops to jump through but, in this case, you have work with the system I suppose. Good luck, V1R |
