The +5.75 problem. Need help!
Good day all from an upset wannabee
I'll cut to the chase. My prescription is +5.75 in both eyes. This falls outside initial/renewal for JAA class 1 which is +5.00. According to the CAA optometrist (very cool guy) to whom I spoke this week there is ZERO flexibility with long sightedness - unlike short sightedness where they can issue a 'deviation' if you are below -8. There is no 'deviation' for my condition. I saw this same guy last year so he knows my history. My last ditch attempt is to see them again to get the definitive test done - a cycloplegic refraction whci is the most accurate way of measuring long sightedness. I dont hold much hope of this showing a reduced prescriptrion. So even with my 'cv' of 70 hours flying, 2 ICAO PPLs & 2 sepearate ICAO class 2 certs it still leaves me......BUGGERED if I want the JAA class 1. So yes, the FAA and the Canadians and the New Zealanders are all ok with +5.75 but not JAA. My ideas now: 1. Ask the IAA if they can allow any flexibility and then convert to the CAA issued class 1 (very small chance of this methinks) OR 2. Go an FAA class 1 from them and use that as leverage (again, pretty slim) OR 3. Go the FAA ATPL route and THEN try convert to JAA which would entail getting the JAA class 1 but at this stage they may look at it more favorably (I have no idea as to whether this would work) OR 4. Sit on my ass (I'm 28) and wait for the JAA regs to change. OR... 5. Forget about the best career in the world. PLEASE tell me what you can. Cheers :ok: :ok: |
well...
if u can't pass... your had better improve your own eyesight... go look for a natural vision teacher... that teachs BATES MEthod.. visit this site http://www.naturalvisioncenter.com and see the list of teachers.... look for one near you |
I agree, people slate the Bates Method.
But believe me if you have the right attitude it works! |
I was in sort of the same position however I'm short sighted and my right eye failed the initial limits.Like you mentioned they offered me the chance to get a deviation to the medical, which has duely been done and so I can continue the chosen path to commercial pilot.
However I too had thought of the FAA route as possible way to get myself flying.Ask the CAA themselves for advice as i remember one guy there during my medical being told he didnt meet the necessary standards tho if he went to the States etc he could come back and transfer over. What I'd certainly have to say is don't give up!! If it is important FIND A WAY!:ok: |
