PPRuNe Forums - Dizziness & Medication

I'd like to pick the brains of any medics out there if possible. I think I know the answer already but I'm hoping for a second opinion.

Some years back I had an accident that left me with severe headaches and neck pain, that got worse over the years. I was taking Solpadol (500/30mg) x2 4-5 times daily, to which was added Dihydrocodeine 30mg x2 4 times daily and then 70mg of Amitryptilline daily (for its analgesic properties). Shortly after starting the Amitryptilline (which was eventually changed to Nortryptilline) I started experiencing dizzy spells, together with nausea and visual disturbances.

I underwent thorough neurological testing, vertebral artery ultrasound, audiometry and some wicked vestibular system testing that involved turning me round and round, upside down, back to front, inside out, the whole nine yards, all of which proved NAD.

Last year I commenced Pain Management Therapy which was a complete success. Within weeks of starting I was off the Dihydrocodeine and Nortryptilline and had drastically reduced the Solpadol, which also ceased after a few months. Would you know it, when I stopped the medication the dizziness stopped as well, which, to me, indicates a direct correlation between the two - after all, all of the above medication has side effects which include the symtoms I was experiencing.

I went through this with my JAA/FAA AME who was happy to issue me with medical certificates. The CAA seem happy but the FAA (after 5 months) have now queried my status, quoting something 'painful' called Positional Nystagmus. I now have to obtain further medical reports which isn't a problem but I'm concerned that they are going to read more into the symptoms than that which seems obvious to me.

BTW, I was grounded (self-imposed) whilst on the medication.

I'd be grateful for any reassurance.
