PPRuNe Forums - Vision & the short-sighted CAA

Does anyone know of a specialist in the field of optometry, who can verify a pilot as fit to fly, that the CAA will accept as "proof enough" that such a pilot is indeed "fit to fly"?

I have once again been declined an appointment for a JAA Class 1 medical on the grounds that my vision is below the CAA standard. I was told quite abruptly that there can be no allowances made to the vision requirements... interesting! I find it strange that the CAA will allow pilots to fly with only one eye but not with two, albeit differentially sighted, eyes. The three cases that I am aware of are an aerobatic pilot that lost an eye prior to gaining a PPL, an instructor and an ATPL that lost an eye after gaining the ATPL.

Are these double standards I see before me? According to the CAA... no, they aren't, but I suppose those that make the rules can then interpret them however they want.

Anyway, I want to prove to the all powerful CAA that my vision is more than acceptable to operate as part of a multi-crew cockpit. And as they refuse to help, I'll will have to do it myself, so if anyone knows of a pilot friendly specialist I would really appreciate the details being sent to me.
