FAA changing EKG reqs

Apparently done with no fanfare.

That link is to an article written by an active ant-vaxer and conspiracy theorist and is entirely supposition.

It is true that the FAA may have changed their policy, but his suggestions why are at best speculative.

Is it correct that the new standards are less stringent ?
What explanation has been given for the change ?

"FAA follows standard processes based on data and science"

Check out the (pretty messy) interview by T.C. of a Lt Col Army Flight Surgeon

I'd be interested to hear what Radgirl has to say about this change in the FAA's EKG parameters.

A fact checking article from AP debunking any claims of a nefarious conspiracy:

New FAA cardiac health rules not prompted by COVID-19 shots

Basically the change to a 300ms PR interval done on scientific advice, 3 prominent cardiologists quoted in the article saying it’s a not a concern.

WHAAAAT?!.......How dare you let facts get in the way of a good conspiracy theory!!

It is good to see a regulator reviewing and amending the rules. Most issues arise from a failure of regulators to amend the rules even though they no longer have any scientific basis

I am not a cardiologist but 1st degree heart block is simply the electrical activity moving through the atria or top two chmbers of the heart more slowly than in the rest of the population and the diagnosis is made by measuring the time interval on an ECG. More than 200ms is taken as abnormal but most such individuals are young athletes and we know that such training can slow the heart. There is no treatment necessary and life expectancy is normal. Incapacitation IMHO is not an issue. I dont know why the diagnostic cut off was set at this number!!

When the time interval is over 300ms there is a risk of the heart slowing dangerously and this issue, seen in older individuals, might warrant a pacemaker.

So it seems the FAA have moved from a limitation on those with no risk of incapacitation but a 'diagnosis' to a limitation of those at risk albeit very small.

Mot sure where vaccination comes into this but the flat earth brigade will no doubt let me know. Transient complete heart block and bradyarrythmias, which VAERS has reported after covid vaccination, are different diagnoses.
