Hasimotos disease
 

Hello everyone

I'm a commercial pilot with unrestricted medical class 1, yesterday i did typical blood test and the thyroid antibodies were too high, all the other exams are perfect without any issue, also all the other thyroid exams are perfect such as T3,T4, TSH, FT3, FT4 completely normal. So today i went to endocrinologist and he diagnosed me with Hasimotos disease, he said to me there is nothing bad with this condition and i dont even need a medication for my thyroid because the exams are good, i just have to eat healthy go for exercise, sleep well, reduce anxiety and thats all.. if i do all of that he said probably i will never to any medication in my life. Every 6 months i have to do blood test and every year an ultrasound thyroid just to make sure everything is ok.

Now to my vital question... the easa said this - - - Thyroid dysfunction Applicants with hyperthyroidism or hypothyroidism should be assessed as unfit. A fit assessment may be considered when a stable euthyroid state is attained.I believe i have to inform my AME for my medical condition but my fear is if i lose my medical cause of this disease... i repeat all the other exams are perfect and my thyroid is pretty normal right now.


What's your opinion about it? Somebody with same disease who is holding an EASA medical class 1?

Hashimotos is an autoimmune disease where the body produces antibodies to attack the thyroid. In many cases an initial period of overactivity of the thyroid (hyperthyroidism) then becomes a longer period of underactivity (hypothyroidism) and needs thyroid replacement tablets. It appears your case is very mild and it is hoped you wont become hypothyroid

Your normal T3 and T4 means you are euthroid - your thyroid function is normal. You do not have hyper or hypo thyroidism. So you pass that EASA test. However, the regulator may have separate conditions or hoops you will have to jump through. Your consultant's opinion will be very important. On the face of it I do not see a big issue but I am not an AME. Good luck

However my AME should know my medical condition without any doubt!
