Medical expiration date relief?

Has any country or authority given relief to airmen whose medical is due but unable to see his or her AME due to the coronavirus restrictions before the given expiration date??

EASA has given guidance the NAAs can implement procedures to do so.
in our case, if you don’t have any restrictions apart from visual, the IAA accepts if we complete a form to self-certify our health and this extends the medical by 4 months.

But unless you are police, ambulance, military, fire or SAR presumably you are locked down and not flying anyway????

Not at all... The sky is still full of planes, and cargo certainly isn't stopping.

as tsvpilot has said plenty of cargo ( some of it essential medical provisions) still being shifted in the belly of "normal" airliners - the decrease in passenger numbers/baggage has freed up weight for extra freight, hold volume permitting.

Just got a note from the FAA that medicals are not to be extended beyond their expiration, and that visits in person are still required. (I’m an AME)

Radgirl 24th Mar 2020 19:04

Sorry guys, I hold my hands up. I missed cargo. Apologies
But we shouldnt be moving a single passenger except controlled repatriation flights where they all go into quarantine
The world is in lockdown of one sort or another, or about to go, or recovering. The countries in the last group are getting reinfected with travelers from abroad. We must close all borders to humans, test, track contacts and lock down

Hi Tom,

Is there a self-certify form for this purpose that you are aware of? For the IAA.

Thanks,
Cheers up!

For UK LAPL and PPL holders, this may be of interest

Bit of a panic !

Hello All,

I had managed to secure a job in this current climate just before all the UK lockdown, my medical class 1 certificate needs to be renewed as it expired on 23/03............

Yup ! exactly on the date specified on the CAA web site for exemption,

"To take advantage of the exemption, the medical certificates or cabin crew medical reports must have been valid on the 23 March"
but also in same section
"This means that medical certificate holders who expired before this date without revalidating their certificate cannot use this exemption and will have to have a renewal medical to exercise licence privileges"

So does the medical expire at midnight on the 23rd, or midnight of the 22nd. ( Been advised `I should be ok as my medical is valid until midnight on the 23rd, but Id still like to hear it from the horses mouth )

My ME tells me the CAA have said in no uncertain terms that Medical Examinations are NOT to be performed at this time, so I take it that its impossible to have a medical or does anyone know if there are medicals being carried out in the UK now ??

Looking like I will be going for sim sometime mid May and will need my medical or confirmation that it extended.

Am I screwed or what ?

All the definitions of expiry date that I can find state the service or product becomes expired at 23:59 on the date of expiry (the next day starting at 00:00). So, you should be OK with your expiry date of 23rd March.

Thanks Nightstop.

Spoke to a nice Lady this morning at CAA who confirmed I am ok for the exemption, in addition she did advise you should also carry the exemption document with your licence and medical.
