Help with Initial Medical Examination
 

Hi all,

I'm an aspiring commercial pilot, I'm from Singapore and turning 20 this year.

I'm planning to apply to be a cadet pilot with Singapore Airlines.
I fit the bill for all the requirements, except for one tiny one.

During my national service (conscription army), I had to take a mandatory medical examination, and was found to have the Brugada Syndrome.

It's completely harmless and peaceful, and has never affected me at all these 20 years of my life, except for the very slightly irregular ECG pattern, evident during the medical exam's ECG test.

I've gone through several tests and challenges to push my Brugada Syndrome to its maximum, to test for how it affects me, and so far, nothing at all.

Online though, many people have no symptoms to very severe symptoms such as daily faints, regular cardiac arrests, etc.

How hard would it be for me to convince the CAAS (Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore) board that I'm very serious about the position and I won't be the slightest affected by the Syndrome?

I've got plans to see a specialist for heart conditions to get his approval for aviation, but I'd like to get some advice first.

I've always had this love and passion for aviation, and it would crush me entirely if I just got all my chances of flying wiped because of a stupid condition that has never done anything to me.

Anyone currently flying (any license, PPL/ATPL/CPL/MPL) who has the Brugada Syndrome and can share insight?

I would strongly advise you to contact the CAAS before doing anything else. I have no knowledge of your regulator but I regret it is highly likely they will be very cautious and at the very least require consultations and tests. Going to see a cardiologist they may not recognise will simply waste your money.
