OML and flight training for CPL

Hi all

I've searched the forum for details on practical situations where having an OML would be a problem. Clearly for commercial (i.e. paid) ops this is where the OML is intended to have effect.

However, I am yet to undertake my CPL MEP MEIR which are planned for this summer. I'm in the process of having my EASA Class 1 re-issued and my understanding is that I will have an OML for the first six months following a flare of ulcerative colitis in January 2017.

Can anybody in the know please confirm that flight training toward a CPL and the flight test itself is still possible with an OML? Logic seems to imply that as this is not flying for reward and any PIC hours should be covered by unrestricted Class 2 privileges (SEP hours), then this should not cause a problem. Always better to check though!

Thanks

RR

Maybe a question for your CAA....

I assume that you have an unrestricted class 2? If so then that’s good enough for MEP & IR. Depending on the order of your training, this may help with your time scale.

As for your CPL, I asked an examiner the same question. He told me that although technically he was assessing me as a single commercial pilot, he would overlook the OML for the purposes of assessment of CPL. But maybe he was just a friendly examiner and someone could interpret this differently. I would side with caution and ask the CAA.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply - much appreciated. Medical is still suspended at the moment, I've been grounded since last May. I'm awaiting reports from my specialist to produce to the AME/AMS before I can book in the renewal. It's been a long wait!

I've run past the FTO too - their Head of Training says in their opinion it isn't an issue for them or their examiner. Some good news for a change.
