ANR headsets

A query regarding Active Noise Reductions headsets.

My understanding of the way they work is that they generate a frequency which is opposite to that entering the ear, effectively cancelling out (most of the) sound.

I have also been told that the same ENGERY is still entering the ear - and it is this whcih causes hearing damage. The brain will effectively hear less, but the ears are still being damaged.

Anyone know any more about this?

Don't think so. The anti noise energy cancels out the sound energy resulting in less energy. Bit like two cars approaching at thirty mph. After the impact, they are both at rest.

Try on the internet typing "cockpit noise" this will take you to loads of sites with some very helpful info. Sennheiser seem to do some very good headsets which I am reserching at the moment. Will put up more info when I have it.

Check out Lightspeed Headsets. They're supposed to be pioneers in active noise reduction...
