Amblyopia

Hello, I have a condition called "amblyopia" or commonly named "lazy eye". I am currently 15years old and 16 in a few months, im looking into training for a ppl in the U.K but obviously it wont be so simple for me! My vision is slightly blured when only using my left eye which has amblyopia, I can struggle reading small/medium size writing but when not focusing on reading it gives a "not bad" general image. My combined sight with both eyes is perfectly fine but would I still face problems in the medical for a ppl? Any help is appreicated

Get it fixed while you are young. My wife had that problem and it was never treated so she suffered with poor vision in one eye all her life.

from https://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx/d...0&pageid=13885

Class 2
(c) Visual Acuity
In an applicant with amblyopia, the visual acuity of the amblyopic eye shall be 6/18 (0,3) or better. The applicant may be assessed as fit, provided the visual acuity in the other eye is 6/6 (1,0) or better, with or without correction, and no significant pathology can be demonstrated.

If your amblyopic eye can't make out the 6/18 line (ask your optician), then there is this ..

(2) An applicant with substandard vision in one eye may be assessed as fit subject to a satisfactory flight test if the better eye:
(i) achieves distant visual acuity of 6/6 (1.0), corrected or uncorrected;
(ii) achieves intermediate visual acuity of N14 and N5 for near;
(iii) has no significant pathology

May I suggest you download this... http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/49/Ophthal...m%20MED162.pdf

take it to your optician and get it filled out then contact a local AME

Medical Examiners Database Search | Medical | Personal Licences and Training

and ask him or her to advise you.
