Help with developed fear of flying

Hi all.

I need some help/advice.

I used to love flying, I gained my PPL at a young age and tirelessly pursued my love of aviation until finally gaining my dream job a number of years ago. I wasn't happy unless I was surrounded by all things flying, even on commercial flights as a passenger I would gaze out of the window guessing our altitude, flying all over Europe and america. very very happily.
Then, one day, whilst flying, I noticed I was becoming uncomfortable, didn't think nothing of it at first, but the uneasiness grew over the next few weeks, steadily worse, to the point I couldn't bear it, couldn't face flying again. this also effected me on commercial flights as a passenger.
Its not the fear of crashing or mechanical failure or the like, its purely an irrational fear of flying, being so high up
I've seen a counsellor, tried improving health, diet, exercise, lost weight etc, all currently have not helped.

I cant understand why this has happened but need help. I don't know where to go from here. I would like to know if anyone has experienced this before and can offer some advice please.

Thank you all

OK. I do realise this situation is so strange and that I must be the only person that this has ever happened to. How can a pilot become scared of flying I really need to find out why and how I can overcome this. I cant face going into work. Please if anyone has any idea how or why this would happen I would be very grateful if you could pm me please. it hasn't happened because I had a near miss or anything or lost someone close in an accident, nothing out of the ordinary has happened. As I said above it got progressively worse, I started feeling uncomfortable flying then weeks later I became extremely uncomfortable and started to panic whilst flying, it been like this ever since. Ive tried everything counselling, hypnosis, exercising. I don't know what else to try, if i cant cure this i dont know what to do

Have you thought about contacting the psychologists who run fear of flying clinics?

Fear of flying

Dr Peter Orton at Stansted has successfully treated a few pilots with similar fears. I would suggest trying him. Good luck
