Ketosis and Class 1 renewal

Medical Boffins,

I'm currently (trying) to lose weight on a low carb diet. I am in ketosis at the moment but have my medical in a few weeks and I worried that is might show up as something is wrong. Is this something that is even checked as part of the usual class 1 renewal?

Cheers

The ketotic thing was all the fashion a few years ago-was it called "the Atkin's" diet or some'at? It's not for me to argue the rights and wrongs, as you haven't asked for that opinion.

Whether or not it show's up on your medical will depend on which urine stix the docs use. Certainly, when I had my last (Class II) some years back, ketones weren't tested for. Protein and glucose was more interesting to my examining doc.

I'm not sure if, (or how) the Class I boy's test for blood sugar- some of the new fangled pinprick devices will test for ketones. I suspect that AME's aren't that fangled- it's not in anyones interest to hunt out problems.

A dishonest person may wish to try and circumnavigate the problem by stating that they've had a vomiting bug for the last few days. (Which would account for said signs.)

A pragmatic person may just avoid being ketotic before their medical :)

Good luck with the weight loss.
