Valid JAA/FAA PPL medical?

Hi

I hold a class 2 medical for the JAA PPL license I'm trying to obtain in Ireland. I am going to USA in summer to complete my JAA PPL. Do I need to complete a separate medical over there or is the one I obtained in Ireland sufficient?

If you have already got a JAA licence, the FAA give you a US one based on it and you can use it with your JAA medical.

If you don't hold a licence, to fly solo in the US, you will need an FAA medical/student pilot cert. There are DR's in the UK who issue them

JAA license? Complete or Student? I only have a student one at the mo with a valid class 2 medical.

If you have a JAA licence you can obtain, gratis, an FAA licence that lasts as long as your JAA licence is valid.

If you only have a student licence you will need the FAA medical in order to fly solo in the US, you will indeed get a "medical certificate third class and student pilot certificate", a small yellow card. In any case the FAA medical is very basic, especially compared to JAA, it's more like the general life insurance type of exam. "If you can find the door and walk through it you've passed".
