Temporary lost of medical

Take the following situation:

A Young F/O goes to renew his medical only to find out that
he is no longer within JAA refraction limits for eyesight,
though he is still well within the -5 total limit. Would he lose his
medical and therefore job or would allowences be made?
Assuming he does lose his medical what would happen if he were to
turn 25 thereby fulfilling JAA requirements.

If you are over 25 years old, or can show stability of refraction over the last 3 years (an unchanged glasses’ prescription), a refractive error between -3.00 and -5.00 dioptres in the most ametropic meridian is acceptable.

Is he then reissued a medical?
What if loss of licence insurance had been claimed?

Anyone?

Obviously not easy to say without knowing your details exactly and your current prescription. As a general rule we don't try and take your licence away for any reason if at all possible. I think it highly unlikely that you would lose it for this. With regards your other question if I were the insurance company I'd want my money back wouldn't you?

Thank you Docfly,

As you seem to be in the know perhaps you could tell me if:

The CAA say your prescription can be -5 for the initial medical if you are over 25 OR can show refractional stability for 3 years.

What would happen if a young wannabe used Bates or something along those lines to improve his eyesight. His vision improves but he is still over the -3 limit. Has the improvement invalidated the 3 year stability rule or is stability here supposed to mean no deterioration?

Thank you.
