Too Fat to Fly 11th Apr 2001 15:52

CAA Medical & Contact Lenses

I am currently preparing for my class 2 medical and I'd be grateful if anyone could clarify a point for me. The requirements state that I need to obtain confirmation that contact lenses have been worn constantly and successfully for over 8 hours over a period of at least one month.

Although I previously wore my lenses all the time, thanks to the cost of disposables and my viciously air conditioned office I now only wear them occasionally, for sport etc and flying - with my sunglasses.

Is this requirement merely to demonstrate that I am able to wear contacts with no problem, and the fact that I have previously worn them constantly would be acceptable. Or will I have to prove that I currently wear them all the time and continue to do so, or else I will be issued a medical stating I can only wear glasses to fly.

I knew this flying lark would cost me money but I didn't think it would include an extra £350 a year on contact lenses.
