a question about Steroides and sinusitis -- need help

hello

i was thinking of applying to a Career pilot traning program, but the thing is. i am a body builder and i take steroides mainly ( deca durabolin and wenstol) so am not sure if thats gonna discqualify me or not, as i do the medical examination

one other thing a friend of mine he has sinusitis and he uses nasal spray/drops to relief the inflamation i think or something like that. it helps him breath. can he pass the medical examination like that or sould he go for a surgury bfore applying

thx for the help

Hi War, I don't know the definitive answer, but I suspect the medics would take a dim view of an admission of anabolic steroid use.

The likelihood of serious side effects are unfortunately high, and some of the therapeutic effects may not be welcome in the cockpit (aggression).

Also, here in the UK, questions would be raised about your supply. Technically, although use of the drugs may not be illegal, supply is, so in effect you are buying from a drug dealer. (Things may be different on the continent-you used to be able to buy the stuff over the counter in Spain.)

The nasal steroid is a different kettle of fish, and is not related to the stuff you're using.

I'm with GN on this one. Have seen at least one guy go properly florid paranoid delusional after steroids (admittedly he was on high doses for a medical condition) requiring big doses of heavy sedatives to control him. Fortunately, this was not in the air (it was in hospital so ready supply of sedatives and people to give them!) so I would be quite surprised if the CAA were to approve a licence in someone using them 'recreationally'.

Nasal steroids to control nasal inflammation and reduce symptoms of sinusitis are fine from that point of view. Your colleagues problem might be an issue if his sinusitis is not well enough controlled for him/her to clear their ears. Doubt it would interfere with the granting of an initial licence though

yeah well the thing i dont think i suffer from aggression and most of the anabolic steroidssude effects... for i take a really low dosage compared to body builders worldwide. i hope they approve on granting me the licence . and yes here in egypt your allowed to buy anabolic steroids from pharmacies it not illegal .

as for my friend, his doctor asked him to do a Sinus CT scan.
and he said that he might use nasal drops or sprays.
but the thing is would it affect his career as a pilot . will they approve on a first class medical certficat afterwards. as he starts his commercial pilot traning ? ( with the usage of nasal drops/sprays )

thanks alot for your help :ok:
