Anti-Depressants
 

Does anyone know if it is still in compliance with the first class medical exam JAR (Europe one) if one has had a history of or are currently on any"mind medication" such as SSRIs' for OCD and the likes.

sorry didnt see the other threads about it on my first look through without using the search function - lots of info already on it.

Looks like if you have some history of it then its ok after a certain time frame but is probably not good for being hired especially if your on them and that some either take them secretly or fly with whatever symptom they have.

Thats what i gather so far.

My knowledge of this subject is by no means comprehensive. However, my tutor's husband at University lost his class one, and subsequently his career because he was put on this medication for some time. Looks like for any form of medical certification with the CAA it is not acceptable.

Unfortunately, most, if not all Aviation authorities are not very progressive in this respect.

However, there is always St Johns Wort, a natural, non prescription and effective anti depressive supplement.

Or just take the ssri's, they wont know if you are taking them on a random or even post accident drug test. The only way they will know is post mortem, which at that point you wont care anyway.
