Possible differences between FAA and JAA Class 1 med?
 

Hello everyone,

I was thinking about possible differences between the FAA and JAA class 1, because even though flying in the US, I would plan to return home to JAA-land sooner or later.

Are there any major ones? Logical thinking would make me guess no, however I do not really know.

I have had a search on that topic but it did not return any useful results, so when being a FAA class 1 holder, could it be the case I am unable to obtain a JAA class 1?!?

That is POSSIBLE, it though must be said it is UNLIKELY. As we know all too well on this forum, aviation medical certification authorities in different parts of the world have minor differences of standards and emphasis. However, unless you are unlucky enough to fall foul of one of those quirks, then in general fit in one place is likely to be fit in most others !

As I understand it, the eyesight requirements are a bit more specific in JAA land. The JAA state a maximum correction allowed whereas (last time I checked) the FAA are happy as long as your correctable to 20/20, regardless of the prescription.
