Class One Medical...

Ive got my class one, a week on wednesday, and just thought id ask for any advise, about the medical, or any tips on what to do during the days leading up to the medical. Maybe people who have carried out the medical recently, can offer some advise.

Thanks in advance......

gingernut 28th Jul 2008 21:44

Probably worth a search, as this has been covered in the last year or two.

It's unlikely that you can affect the outcome of the medical by changing your behaviour a few days before. Try and rest as best you can, and avoid the obvious, like a night on the lash the night before.

One word of advice, they are out to pass you, not fail you:)

I will give you one tip that I noticed! If your medical is in the afternoon, dont spend all morning in front of a computer screen. I find it makes my long range vision slightly blurry for the rest of the day and I made a couple of mistakes reading the bottom line :*

AMEandPPL 29th Jul 2008 10:01

just be normal . . . . . . . .

One word of advice, they are out to pass you, not fail you
So glad to see that point emphasised again. Over the years in many folks' eyes the crew of the good ship Belgrano have acquired something of a reputation for being aggressive and prescriptive. In the old days there may have been some truth in that.

But nowadays, the aim is simply to keep as many pilots flying as possible, so long as safety is always the very top priority.

have u ever had ur colour vision tested?

if not, and ur unsure how ur colour vision is, drink LOTS of water 48 hours before ur medical!

believe it or not, it makes it MUCH easier to see the coloured dots on the test.

i`m a believer having tried and tested this soloution.... it works!

AMEandPPL 29th Jul 2008 23:53

thank you, Professor . . . . . . . . . !

Won't be long till the mods move this to the "colour vision" thread. Hopefully . . . . . . . :ugh:

At least when it's there this nonsense about excessive water ingestion will be well hidden away.

Chaps with genuine CVD have quite enough worries to contend with without tommyrot like this.

my colour vision is fine...........but yehh i will be drinking plenty of water from now til the medical anyway.

thanks

AMEandPPL 30th Jul 2008 13:43

taking the p*ss . . . . . . ?

but yes, I will be drinking plenty of water from now till the medical anyway
That's a good idea, irrespective of the nonsense about colour vision, because you will certainly be required to produce a specimen for routine testing !

Once again, good luck !

The hearing test was a bit different to what I expected, the sounds although different pitches are very quiet so don't be put off with this.

I had mine last monday and everyone was really nice at the medical centre.

Make sure you have your paperwork filled in before hand and don't forget your ID.

Best of luck.

to get back to the topic of the thread . . . . . . .

I've got my class one a week on Wednesday, and just thought I'd ask for any advice
For most reasonably healthy and fit and sensible young folk the initial class 1 at the Belgrano is really no big deal. As we have emphasised, they want to pass you, if at all possible, not the other way round.

My advice ? Think in term of just three P's !

Be Punctual - nothing worse than being late, rushed, flustered, etc

Be Polite - you'll be asked to do a lot of things which are not like your usual days - showing anger, aggression or annoyance will not go down well - a pleasant and co-operative attitude definitely will

Be Prepared - remember your passport as photo ID, details of your GP name and address, reports on any specific medical history, take glasses if you wear them (with latest prescription), full details of any regular medication you might be on

oh yes, one more thing , they'll want a specimen of P :ok:

The very best of luck next week ! !

Kiev23 31st Jul 2008 13:50

Thanks for all the advise........everyone says they are all really nice down there........:ok:

AMEandPPL 31st Jul 2008 18:50

now for the bad news . . . . . . . . .

Think in term of just three P's
I just thought of another P, which you WON'T like quite so much . . . .

You will need to Pay ! ! !

Still, I'm sure it will be worth it ! Do let us know how it goes.

lol.....paid ages ago when i booked :)

Kiev23 31st Jul 2008 22:01

Can you request for certain test to be done first or select the order of which the tests are conducted ??

AMEandPPL 31st Jul 2008 22:13

probably not . . . . . . . .

Can you request for certain test to be done first or select the order of which the tests are conducted ??
I suspect not - though candidates will visit different test departments in a different order. After all, they all have to be occupied at all times !

Why would you WANT to choose ? ALL the tests have to be done during the half day that you are there - what difference could the order in which they are done possibly make ?

Kiev23 1st Aug 2008 21:44

well so i can do the peak flow thing first coz im not confident about that test.

AMEandPPL 2nd Aug 2008 09:28

confidence lacking . . . . . . .?

Well, so I can do the peak flow thing first, because I'm not confident about that test
Looking back over all your posts in recent months, I get the impression that the only thing you are slightly lacking in is . . . . . . .

CONFIDENCE !

Believe in yourself, have faith and optimism. As we have emphasised here often, their aim is to pass you, if at all possible, not the opposite !

Good luck next week, yet again !
