Class one Medical (anthracycline process)
 

Hi just trying to get myself prepared for the outcome of the following.

Has anyone got a story to tell about this and how they got on?

Would really like to help or advise if possible, but I really have NO idea at all what this question is all about. Is it just I ?

I have forwarded all my medical documents to the CAA today which included the full diagnoses, prognoses, history, staging etc

All the notes are very positive. No abnormal swelling of main body functions. Strong Haemaglobin after the chemo session. In clear remission now for 2 years.

There is a document on the CAA website to show you the process of dealing with the anthracycline process. I can email it you if you wish?

Understood now - a history of anthracycline use in the past - presumably for some form of malignancy ?

No personal experience in the aviation field, I'm afraid. Though I have heard of an ATCO who had an osteosarcoma as a teenager and was treated, successfully, with anthracyclines. After he qualified as an ATCO some doubt was cast on the long term cardiac effects of these drugs by a "fatal accident enquiry" in Scotland after a plane crash ( = Coroner in England). As a result of the bad publicity the CAA chased and hounded all who were known to have used anthracyclines, and this went on for many years.

I should think it is possible that a past history of anthracycline treatment would still be regarded as a significant obstacle to getting an initial JAR class 1.

I went for my class one medical this week and had to spend 2 days at the CAA in Gatwick.
Came out with a full class one unrestricted license.

Plus im Just coming to completion of my PPL.
Off to Bournemouth in January for my ATPL theory hopefully!

Great ! Well done ! I'm glad to hear that, though it does sound as if you were put through much more of a mill than most ! (you had to spend 2 days there - most Class 1 initials take about half a day).

Hopefully your annual renewals in future will be much more routine and uneventful !

Hi guys/ JaMiE7Walker. I am in a very similar situation to you- now 19 and a half years all clear, having had a 'below safe dosage' of the Anthracycline Epirubicin- as a result of cancer when I was younger. I was wondering if you would mind telling me how 'hot' they were on this topic?

Hi guys. I am writing here because I also have a question. 1 year ago I went to pass a first medical exam Class 1, because I want to register for the aviation school in Bruxelles. In the past (3 years ago) I had a kidney stone (3 mm) which I eliminated, but when I had to pass the exam I told to the doctor that I had a kidney stone few years ago (it was a big mistake), after that the doctor sent me to do an extra investigation. I do not have kidney stones anymore, but I still have residual things (less than 1 mm - are like particles of sand). The urologist told me that I will not have problems/complications because they are really small ... But just for this I've been denied for the medical exam and I recieved at home a paper from BCAA (Belgian Civil Aviation Authority) that my class 1 certificate could not be delivered because of that residual things in the kidney and to try again when my kidney is clean. My question is : If I go to take another exam at another center (in Belgium) and to not say nothing about, what could be the consequences ? Do you think that BCAA could notice that I tried to pass another exam 1 year ago? or not?

Once its on paper with one authority , you now have no choice but to declare your passed medical issues.

If you dont declare it, and down the track an investigation takes place, lets say after a crash (maybe not directly related to you) the insurance company for example will not pay out.....

Your medical records are on record (computer) they will know everything when you make an appointment .

My advise is to do what they said and get further medical advise about your kidneys
