Possible Eardrum perforation
 

Hello everyone,

I would like an advice about eardrum perforation, after a very quick observation a doctor ( not specialist ) told me that i´ve a eardrum preforation, based on a quick look in the ear and listenning to my sytoms, i would like to have an opinion about this and if this could afect my present flight training.
My symptoms are just minor pain but not direct in the ear just in the area surrounding the ear, i didn´t bleed, no ear loss, no noise in the ear.


I straight oppinion would be very appreciated,

How about going to see your aviation medic? He/she would be able to give you his/her opinion on it.

how long have you had your symptoms ?

I´m having this symptoms for the last 4 days, but they just make me somethimes not very comfortable, but in flight i dont have any big problem.

Minor holes in the eardrum usually resolve spontaenously, but in view of your chosen occupation, it may be worth seeking a specialist opinion.

Interestingly, once a perforation occurs, it tends not to cause too many problems when flying, as the pressures between the outer and middle ear tend to equalise- but again, seek the help of a specialist.

Don't ask here, see your AME ASAP, they will tell you what you need to know, although I suspect you have nothing to worry about.

Yes I'd agree, the medical and health forum has, unfortunately spiralled into a decline of at best, well meaning misinformation, to, at worse, positively dangerous opinions:}

Burst eardrums in the diving scenario are a result of not starting to clear soon enough - if pressure is too great you do not have enough muscular power to equalise.
A clean burst normally will heal over in a few days. The scar tissue will only result in a lowering of the higher frequencies in your hearing.
