Local Anasthetic and flying
 

Just need a minor op under local (probably lignocaine) and want to know where I can find out about the legality of flying afterwards....

Tried a search for lists of dos and don'ts but the UK CAA usefully states that one is to seek advice of their local aviation medic AND airline for all specific enquiries.

Technically that would include whether I can take Alka-seltzer for a hangover during my holidays.

Surely I must be misinformed on that, my CAA Doc wont want me calling about all the niff naff and trivia (or wont want to give advice regularly for free anyway) - is there a list of approved self-medication / treatments that don't have to be performed by a CAA doctor?

Really dredging the grey cells, but seem to recall from the Human Perf books that it was 24 hours for a local and 48 hrs for a general.

Aftyer your post I started looking elsewhere and CAP 649 (Specimen A to B Standard operations manual)(Helicopters) does specify 24 hours after local as you mentioned; however CAP 648 (Aeroplanes) has a practically identical chapter but without that paragraph - ie there is no mention at all.

As per CAP 648(A) my company ops manual also has no mention.

Anywhere else to try?

(Ams also doesn't solve my self medicated hangover problem either:ok: )

Grey cells also say 24 hrs..although I can announce to all I have flown after 18 hours, listen to your body, err on the side of caution, you'll be fine :D

24hrs local 48hrs general from JAR-ops me thinks, and not flying for a couple of days won't kill you will it? :@)
