Failed medical : Brugada
 

Hello.

Ive failed my medical for my NATS application due to a heart condition called brugada. Otherwise known as Sudden unexpected death syndrome. I believe Gabby Yoraths brother
(son of Terry Yorath) died suddenly at the age of 15 playing football in his garden.

Was due to start this Dec training in Bournemouth :( Gutted. Going to see a specialist and the treatment, seems in America alot of patients are fitted with there own defibrillator which when detects the heart going into a rapid pulse shocks it back into normal rhythm.

Glad i applied for NATS though and have had the condition diagnosed.

Oh my goodness...sorry to read this and obviously your disappointment in a career in aviation. Well at least you know and whatever treatment you get will prolong your life...don't be gutted...one door closes and another opens...life is wonderful, just enjoy it to the full...

Very very sorry to hear that news.

I too cannot get a class 1 at present but have managed to get a class 2 and keep my passion for flying at bay.

I have moved my sales career into aviation (selling to airlines, MROs etc) and so I have enough money to fly at weekends plus talk aeros during the week.

Its not sitting up there in the pointy end but if there is nothing you can do and you have tried everything, then surely theres some satisfaction in knowing you gave it your best shot.
