CSR eye disorder - HELP REQ
 

Just been diagnosed with CSR. I landed last wednesday after a longhaul trip at night and the next day my eye hurt. Went to the local hospital then AME and then specialist up in Harley street. I have got a small leak on my retina. My vision is not impaired and I feel ok but still not allowed to fly.

Has anyone had it? If so, how long on average does it take to clear up? I just hope it is gone in 10 weeks otherwise I will miss my trip to the Maldives. Is there anything you can take to speed things up? Does anyone fly with CSR with a restriction? I am an F/O.

What tests/investigations did they do on Harley St?

Thank you for getting back to me. I had a basic eye sight test and could read all of the lines, colour blindness book and black graph with white lines to determine whether or not I had blind spots. Passed them all. My vision from both eyes is fine. If I look at an object through both eyes, I can see it as normal, If i close my good (left) eye and then open my right eye I can see a grey see through lobe which soon diappears. The consultant also looked into my eyes through a special light machine and then dilated my pupils with eye drops and had another look with blue, yellow and green lights. It was great fun trying to read the underground stations after that. Tried to buy a bottle of water otu of a vending machine and managed to get a bar of fruit and nut.

Do you know how long on average it takes to get better and the percentage of people that do not have reoccurences?:confused:

It is possible to have a small bleed at the back of the eye, and never have a reoccurrence, but do monitor the situation carefully. By this I mean have the retina looked at every couple of weeks by a local eye clinic for the next while.

describe in more detail the patch in your right vision.

The CAA may want a letter from an eye surgeon or examine you themselves. Best to press on with organizing all this, cos there is a great deal of time delay where these folk are concerned.

wear glares when you go out

Thank you for getting back to me. The grey patch appears when I close my left (good)eye. It is like a thumb print wherever I look but I can see through it. it is not a blind spot but more of a grey discolouration.:sad:

From what you say it seems to be a clinical diagnosis. If yuor livelyhood and the CAA is involved it might be worth considering objective evidence. Take a look at this link and have a chat with your chap on Harley St

Note that I am a pilot not a doctor and it is really not possible to make any accurate assessment, but it sounds as though you may be looking through part of the membrane-like covering of the vitreous gel which has fallen away from the retina.

Have a senior ophthalmologist check to see if you have a Posterior Vitreous Detachment. Search PVD or my many post on the subject. If it should be the case, don’t worry unduly, as some fold have this for much of their lives.

Thank you for your replies! I am having my eye photograped next week. I have CSR, it has been confirmed by two people. It is a very small leak. Does anybody out there fly with CSR?:sad: :ouch:
