Laser Eye Surgery. (Nothing to do with Class1)

Hello all,

I'm thinking about having my eyes "lasered" and do not care what the implications would be for a Class 1 medical as I have no intention of ever having one.

If any of you have had your eyes done and would be kind enough to share your experiences with me, I would be extremely grateful.

Many thanks,

SuperOwl

Mr. Wednesday (guess by your handle and location) ;-)

I had LASIK surgery about 2.5 years ago. One of the best things I've ever done. It has made a massive difference to my view of the world.

Read the Internet newsgroups to get feedback. You will generally get the bad results being reported, and some of the horror stories are terrible. But I've got no qualms recommending the company who did my eyes they were professional all the way and not too far from where you are located (Leeds).

Although I have better than 20/20 vision today I'm still not worthy of a Class I certificate as the CAA deem the pre-op prescription as the one to use. C'est la vie.

I had Lasik 6 months ago, and am very pleased with the results. I would be happy to answer any specific questions on the forum, or by PM.

I had LASIK in April 2001. The results were better than I could have hoped for. I now have perfect vision. The procedure was quick and painless.

I passed a Class 1 initial in January 2003 and have had renewals since then with no trouble at all.

Laser Eyes

Had mine done about 6 months ago and had a class 2 medical shortly afterwards (a few months) and the AME could not tell.

Its fantastic to get rid of Contacts and spec's

A buddy of mine (a senior FI) reckoned that if the CAA new about it they would insist on me flying with a safety pilot for two years!!

Any one esle heard that?

Hi SuperOwl,

I had my eyes lasered (LASIK) 1.5 years ago. Best decision I've ever made. Perfect vision today: right eye 1.6, left eye 1.25.

For your understanding, if wearing glasses or contacts the ophthalmologist attempts to correct your vision to 1.0. Obviously, my vision is now far better than it was prior to the surgery.

I had to have it done in order to get a Class 1, as I happened to be blessed with a bad astigmatism... Last fall I was issued my medical and haven't had any problems at all since the laser treatment.

I'd be happy to answer your questions, as choosing the right method and the right surgeon is the most important decision you can make!!!

I have no commercial interests, but I had it done in Zurich, Switzerland, and let me tell you that, the doc was worth it every single penny!! He's one, if not THE leading specialist in his field. Never ever fall for the cheaper offer, as you get what you're paying for!! In other words, don't go to a clinic in Eastern Europe or in Turkey, just to safe yourself a little bit of cash!! Feel free to post your questions here or per PM and I'd be very happy to give you answers.

CarPete,

It seems odd to me that the AMC examining you couldn't tell the difference. They usually check your cornea surface with an orbscan. If an eye experienced laser treatment, the cornea would look very smooth. Got no clue why they didn't find out about it?
