ATPL in the UK with Irish medical?

Hi,

I have a query which I would be greatful for responses.

I have an IAA issued JAA Class 1 medical. I am yet to convert it to CAA issued one.

I have had problems with the CAA in the past so converting the medical maybe a legthy process for me.

Im starting my ATPL very soon and have enrolled on one presuming that my IAA-JAA Class 1 Medical would be just as good as a CAA one.

Will I need the CAA medical first to sit the ATPL exams?

help appreciated.

I am not sure but believe that you have to be in the possession of a CAA class 1 to do training over here in the UK.

To be sure though why not ask the CAA or the training establishment you are going to use?

Ask Flight Crew Licensing at CAA - you're about to commit to a major project, so get the answer from the horse's mouth.

So are you trying to do a ATPL theory course in Endland? i.e from the CAA? If this is the case you need a CAA issued class 1 medical. If you are doing a ATPL course from the IAA then you need a IAA medical. If you do do your ATPL course with the IAA I'm pretty sure the CAA won't accept it, as exams are the one thing they won't accept from other states.

You are in a similair situation to me. You failed your CAA class 1 on eyesight, as I did with colour vision, however we both have gone on to get a JAA class 1 with a different state. The CAA have accepted my german class 1 and am currently waiting for the CAA to process my new medical. You will have to talk to the CAA to see if they will accept the IAA medical since you failed your CAA one.

Thanks very much Blinkz!! I am in a very similiar situation to you tho it was not on colour vision. Its fantastic to hear that some one in a similiar situation is succeeding!

I will contact CAA with this matter.

Thanks for everyone else for your respose. Appreciate it very much.

PS, Blinkz, when and how did you apply for the conversion, how long do you think it will take?

Unless things have changed recently, this is no issue.I got an IAA class one and the CAA were very helpful and converted it in a couple of days, cost £25.The clinic (the mather)just sent a simple form to the CAA.

Do you have to send the form to Mater yourself first (as I gather from the CAA website)?

Mr Man 30th Aug 2004 17:45

No.Just let the very friendly and helpful Adrienne at the Mater know that you wish to also have a CAA class 1 issued, you can tell her on the day.
In my case, the CAA rang 2 days later and said no problem but they needed a card payment of £25.Very straightforward.

Pilot16 , Mr Man is right. In a similar situation myself. I'm halfway through my ATPLs and sitting them in the UK. I have a Class 1 issued by the IAA. Apparently all the IAA have to do is forward your medical records over to the CAA and they can reissue you with one.

I'm still using my IAA Class 1. At my last medical the Doctor was acutally a CAA medical examiner who comes over to help out. He said not to worry about it untill I was ready to start my CPL training.

Thanks,

Called the CAA up, they want me to come in for another eye test, dont think so.

Called the IAA up, the very helpful senior medical officer who issued me with the Class 1 (albeit after a second eye test which required me to fly over to Dublin again) said she will talk to the CAA that another eye test is completely inappropriate.

See what happens,
:O

Just for the record, but the Irish AMC does not need to send your medical records CAA they just need to sign a form that your first class medica is valid and that you meet jar-fcl 3 requirements. Check out CAA website at renewals/revalidation. you can download the form there.
