Plantar fascitis: hot to get rid?

About 18 months ago I complained about heel pain, went to the orthopedist doctor and he made me wear a night splint. About a year later I had no more pain and could walk at my usual pace.

Since I had no more complaints, I stopped wearing the night splint and after about 2-3 weeks the pain returned. Are there any other solutions than the night splint?

My wife suffers from this and has used Shiatsu treatment (accupuncture with finger pressure rather than needles) with some success, although not complete relief.

Best to see a podiatrist, they can assess your condition. Shoe inserts/support are excellent (make sure you are fitted properly though!) I could hardly walk for nine months but after a few podiatrist visits and purchasing excellent (but expensive) sandshoes, plus shoe inserts I am almost pain free.
Podiatrist will not only give relief but also follow up exercises that can help at any time.

I run a lot and I had this a number of years ago. Fixed by ultrasound and a new pair of trainers (following a 'foot-o-scopic' (?) examination) that were suited to my particular foot/leg angle bendage problem.

Never had a problem since (12+yrs).

1. Re-assess shoes - orthotics changed/adjusted ==> see a podiatrist
2. Re-asses running - could you have changed technique recently? Running volume/terrain? think back to when pain started appearing, both when first and this time round.
3. Self massage - slow deep friction. also - icing is excellent morning/night/after exercise, depending on severity and how much time you've got on your hands. a great way to spare fingers/ save time- keep a golf ball or a glass coke bottle in the freezer - and roll your foot over for about 5-10 minutes.
3. Sports physios are good.

Good luck!!!

I try to wear the best shoes I can find, the doctor found my Mephisto's of good quality but he said to change them often.

I don't run but walk around a lot on my work.

I do the ice massage twice a day and it helps.

I walked about 9 km today, in hilly terrain and had no problem, will see tomorrow morning, Two weeks ago I could hardly walk around the house and only at half groundspeed.

Keep the experiences coming.;
