Colitis

Damn blast and bugger! :*

I've just got over a revent flare up of my ulcerative colitis. :)

But...:ugh:

Prior to this I was toddling along nicely on a maintenance dose of 3 x 400mg of Asacol a day, which was not a problem for the CAA. Now that things are back to normal, my Consultant has recommended I take 6 x 800mg of balsalazide a day as a maintenance dose instead.

I'm going to give the CAA a call tomorrow, but in advance of this I was wondering whether anyone could shed any light on whether the drug and volume is going to keep me grounded (I'm a PPL on a Class 2 JAR medical).

I'm keeping my fingers and toes crossed...but Plan B (or, more accurately, Plan NPPL) may have to swing into action. :E

This shouldn't cause too much of a problem with the CAA. I am currently in remission with Ulcerative Colitis and the CAA allow me to take double the amount of Asacol you are on and an immune system suppressant called Azathioprine.

I currently hold a class one medical with an as or with co pilot restriction and fly full time with an Airline.

Worth checking with the authority and yor Consultant before you start taking the new medication. You will find the CAA medical department very helpful and will do all that they can to keep you flying.

Please feel free to e-mail me.
